Description
Brewery in Elmshorn closed in december 2024. Owner moved from Elmshorn to Krefeld, bought the former brewery of "Third Sector Brewing" and started brewing his beers there in early 2026.

Former address:
Langelohe 65A, 25337 Elmshorn.

The story starts on a kitchen stove in a flat on Balduinstr, metres from the Elbe river in St Pauli. Fast forward six years and after a gentle enthusiastic push from the owners of Alles elbe, a brew pub across the Reeperbahn, Simian Ales now has a microbrewery and taproom in Elmshorn, outside Hamburg.

With a core range of beers such as a North German Pilsner, modern American style IPA, Red Ale and table beer, and collaborations with breweries including Fanø Bryghus (Denmark), Ratsherrn & Bunthaus (Hamburg), Simian is being found in more and more cities across Germany and continental Europe.

Bottle from Beerdome. Supposedly, you have to check the brewery's social media accounts to find out what single hop variety you're drinking. I was tempted to detract a point for that. Anyways. The aroma consists of floral-ish hop with citrus, rose petals, touch of coconut, tropical notes, orange, some mango, potpouri, wheaty pale malt, weedy notes. Flavour is moderate bitter and light sweet. Body is medium. Tasty with an interesting hop variety.

Like an English style Rotbier. More malty than hoppy. Would be an instant cask classic.

Wow! An "experimental freestyle harvest" version of Nelson Sauvin hops. Delightful. Bitter, fruity, tropical dank grassy goodness. So much hop, so much greatness and ultimate, prima YES.

Good name for a beer. Dry and quite hopped lager. The hops give it its main characteristic, bitter but delectable. Grassy but not sassy.

Rund hopfiger, deutlich herber Beginn. Geringfügig süß, etwas harzig, die Hopfigkeit nimmt schnell ab. Hell würzig, etwas trocken, kurzer Abgang -ok. 11/8/8/8/7/8

Can picked up from Bierkiste, München and consumed at home Sunday 26th November 2023 after a lovely 12km hike in the snow today now listening to The Mary Wallopers - Irish Rock N Roll. We had fishcakes with roasted new potatoes and brussel sprouts with chestnuts and a dill and mustard sauce. Pours warm gold, hazy large white, soft, creamy head. Some summer stone fruits on the nose with a creamy softer edge. Light citrus, nice little tang, fruity throughout, easy drinking and very pleasant drop.

Can picked up from Bierkiste München and consumed at Premier Inn, Schwabing Nord the same day, today Thursday 23rd November 2023. Have been in Bad Tölz today and off to Dream Wife gig at Ampere München tonight. Pours hazy yellow gold with a white head, nice bitterness, citrussy, pithy lemon, soft mouthfeel, this is very good, leans more towards IPA than lager but perhaps that's just the level of hopping. Actually just noticed that this is only 4.5%, it's excellent for such a modest abv, hoppy burps aplenty btw.
