About
Brewery in Elmshorn closed in december 2024. Owner moved from Elmshorn to Krefeld, bought the former brewery of "Third Sector Brewing" and started brewing his beers there in early 2026.

The story starts on a kitchen stove in a flat on Balduinstr, metres from the Elbe river in St Pauli. Fast forward six years and after a gentle enthusiastic push from the owners of Alles elbe, a brew pub across the Reeperbahn, Simian Ales now has a microbrewery and taproom in Elmshorn, outside Hamburg.

With a core range of beers such as a North German Pilsner, modern American style IPA, Red Ale and table beer, and collaborations with breweries including Fanø Bryghus (Denmark), Ratsherrn & Bunthaus (Hamburg), Simian is being found in more and more cities across Germany and continental Europe.

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with very weak ruby shimmer and average to huge, thick, firm, frothy, moderately lasting minimally lacing, dark beige head. Roasty, chocolately, dark malty and grassy hoppy aroma, notes of coffee, dark chocolate, Belgian chocolate, whiffs of liquorice, light, minimally waxy, citrusy fruity hoppy overtones with a touch of tangerine. Taste is dry, roasty, slightly chocolately, dark malty, notes of coffee, some liquorice, dark chocolate, Belgian chocolate, moderately bitter, zesty, citrusy fruity hints of tangerine and orange peel. Creamy-watery texture, smooth and soft, simultaneously slightly dry palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation. Rich, intense, balanced - a little gem!

330ml bottle. Hazy, yellow-ish, golden colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Floral, fruity, minimally piney, hoppy and sweet-ish, pale malty aroma, notes of petals, bergamot, coconut, hibiscus, rose hip, fresh hay, a touch of lychee, kumquat, lime. Taste is floral-fruity and citrusy hoppy, sweet-ish, biscuity pale malty, notes of petals, fresh hay, bergamot, hibiscus, rose hip, hints of lemon, pineapple, lychee, a minimally perfumed touch of bath salt, whiffs of coconut. Creamy texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, medium to fine, foamy, mildly prickly carbonation. Wow! This is excellent! Rich and manifold hop flavours, very well crafted, a plethora of subtleties - outstanding!

330ml bottle. Cloudy, orangey golden colour with huge, thick, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Citrusy fruity, hoppy aroma, zesty notes of orange, tangerine, some lemon, a touch of peach, grassy overtones. Taste is citrusy fruity hoppy, zesty notes of lemon, orange, tangerine, a touch of lime, lemon pith, lemon oil, grassy hoppy overtones, sweet-ish, pale malty basis; lingering, bitter, zesty, minimally waxy finish. Minimally oily, watery texture, dry palate, medium, prickly carbonation. Crisp hoppy, intensely citrusy, very refreshing, highly drinkable - very nice.

33cl bottle. A minimal hazy dark golden beer with a off-white head. Aroma of intense coconuts, flowers, citrus. Taste of intense floral hops, coconut, bergamotte, citrus. Long bitter finish.
