Description
Moonwake: “the moon’s reflection on a body of water” speaks to the brewery’s Leith Shore location, the importance of water as an ingredient, and our beer’s reflection of our collective experience.

Our beer is precision brewed with mindful intention on modern technology using quality ingredients.

Our founders started their beer careers on opposite sides of the world, Vinny in New Zealand and Fin in the UK. They bring over a decade of collective experience in brewing to Moonwake, for both of them brewing is their creative outlet.

Keg at the Pembury Tavern - Hackney. Pours hazy orange-gold with a creamy, white head. Lightly sweet with some pithy tangerine, minerals, rind, nips of pine, lightly chalky. Light to medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Pithy, flinty finish, more citrus notes. Drinkable beer.

On keg at Monty's Bar. Appearance - amber and cloudy. Creamy off white head. Nose - a bit elusive, then caramel and orange. Taste - toffee, orange and brown bread. Palate - light bodied and creamy. Dry finish. Overall - not as fruity as expected from modern IPA. But quite good.

Can from The Beer Cave. Hazy golden/amber body with an off-white head. Low carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of biscuit and caramel. Flavour of berries and toffee. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. For me this is a ‘light’ red IPA; it lacks the sweet, syrupy concentrated flavour of the best red IPAs I’ve tried.

Can picked up at Fierce Aberdeen. It pours hazy deep amber - brown with an off-white head. The aroma is sticky, sappy, pine, spicy, rye bread, orange peel, marmalade, campari and red berry. The taste is dry, bitter, piney, sappy, resinous, oily, touch of toffee, green, weedy, spicy, bitter orange peel, tangerine, kumquat, campari, pithy, zesty, orchard fruits and a touch of red berry with linger bitter, spicy pine finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Does everything I wanted it to. Flavourful and satisfying.
