The Chesterfield Arms, 40 Newbold Road, Chesterfield, S41 7PH, England
Description
Owner and brewer Josh Clarke is producing cask ale exclusively for The Chesterfield Arms and bottled brews to sell at delicatessens, farm shops, markets and online.
Like the 19th century pub in which the micro-brewery is based, Josh was determined to preserve the town’s history in the branding of the new business. He chose Resting Devil, a name inspired by the fable of how the town’s landmark church got its crooked spire.
At Resting Devil, quality and consistency will be the priority. With 12 years’ experience in the game, the Brewer will bring some devilishly drinkable beer to suit every palate.

Cask (gravity) at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a golden yellow. Aroma is sweet with traces of honey. Sweetness in the mouth too at first, but after a well floral hops rise to the surface along with corn and crusty bread rolls. Later still come some hints of barley sugar. Finish is bitter and slightly dry. This is rather nice.

Half-pint on tap at the brewpub, Chesterfield Arms. Patchy surface, next-to-clear dark golden body, dotted spots on the glass. Smell of mango and citrus, mid-sweet, quite promising. Hop fruity taste of peaches, mango, and citrus, lactose sweetness beneath. Ends on the sweet side of bittersweet, fruity. Pretty decent. (Chesterfield 08.07.2022).

Fine blended taste of orange, mandarin, and earthy malts. Rounded, mid-dry, bitter fruity end. Fine depth to it. Nice (Chesterfield 08.07.2022).

Cask. Gravity. Rail Ale fest. Clear gold with a white foam. Bit buttery this. Sweet with grassy hop. Decent nick but not one I’d want more than a half of. Fair play it’s a brand new brewer though.
