Bottle 33 cl. Pours an opaque black with a smallish, light brown head. Nose has roast but is actually dominated by a peaty smokiness. Body is surprisingly not all that heavy, carbonation is to the low side, a harsh, rough and ashy roastiness with an extreme attenuation - not a gram of rsidual sweetness here! Notes of peaty smoke and woody tannins before a rather solid, roasty bitterness. Not bad as such, just not really to my liking. Spybrew surely has been getting into the greedy yeasts lately! 090321

Bottle 33 cl. Pours an almost clear brown with an orange hue and a dense and creamy off-white head that leaves some lacework. Nose is subtle, perhaps a little nuts and alcohol. Surprisingly light in body considering the alcohol, very smooth and soft on the palate. If you expected a sticky sweet beer you'd be surprised as this is heavily attenuated with hardly any residual sweetness but a very solid bitterness. No smoke. Personally I like malty sweetness in Scotch Ales, so I'm missing out a bit. Others may find the dryness and the bitterness relieving.
