Cask at Pigs Ear 2015, day 4 - London. Pours unclear reddish brown with a bubbly, beige head. The aroma holds burnt grainy toast and subtle cocoa. Light-medium sweet flavour, with hints of cinnamon, dry chocolate, earth. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation; OK condition. Drying on the finish, lightly chalky, with more bitter earthiness and bittersweet cocoa. So so.

Pigs Ear Day 4. Cask. Hazy amber beer, residual pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Low carbonation. Modestly sweet malts, a little bready. Cinnamon, light floral bitterness. Ripe fruits. Semi dry finish. Doesn’t really pull off it’s own concept for me but it’s fine.

Pigs Ear Day 1. Cask. Opaque dark brown beer decent pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Tangy malts with some okay sweetness and dark chocolate. Mild roast bitterness. Trace of vanilla. Light tangy finish. Decent.

Pigs Ear Day 1. Cask. Hazy Amber beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry. Light malts, some caramel. Big hops, resinous orange, some hop spice. Citric peel. Juicy tropical fruits. More hop spice on the semi dry finish. Very nicely done.

Cask at Pig’s Ear 2015. It pours murky darkest brown with decent beige head. The nose is sweet, sticky, Dandelion & Burdock, cherry, fruit cake, stewed fruits, sticky fruits, burnt toast and charred wood. The taste is bitter-sweet, charred wood, sticky, Eccles cake, burnt toast, mild acidity, warming alcohol and peppery spice. Medium body and fine carbonation. Slightly charred/burnt, but pretty nice overall.

Medium sweet flavour, with oily chocolate, earth, light wintery spices. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and oily texture. Bitter earth in the finish, slick chocolate, light plastic, burnt toast. Eh, so so.

Cask Gravity at Pig’s Ear 2015. It pours hazy golden-amber with a bubbly white head. The nose is soft, sweet, juicy, sticky, oily, peach, nectarine, brioche and resin. The taste is bitter-sweet, resinous, spicy, leather, quite oily, plenty of stewed orange, nectarine, decent malty backbone and good lick of alcohol warmth through the finish. Medium body, soft carbonation and slightly chewy mouth-feel. All-round rather nice. A bit of a surprise after having a few boring low-boost-goldes.

Bottle from Saucy Pears Bottle Shop, Worcester, Saturday 5th December consumed at home Sunday 6th December 2015. Pitch black in colour with a beige head, looks corking. The coffee on the nose is more latte ’ish’ rather than full on roasty, but I think that was the aim. Smooth and a little creamy in the mouth, the coffee has a nice fresh roastiness to it. Wonderful smooth, tasty stout, it has considerable depth considering the modest strength. Loved this, switched off rating mode and just savoured, another great beer from Odyssey. A8 A5 T8 P4 Ov16 4.1

Bottle from Saucy Pears Bottle Shop, Worcester, Saturday 5th December consumed at home Sunday 6th December 2015. Pours deep amber, hazy with a sticky off white head. On the nose there is lots of pine resin but with some lovely sweet tropical fruits, some maltiness also. This is utterly stupendous, a full on hoppy assault but great bittersweet balance, dry, a touch furry, lovely bitterness, smooth restrained but ever present, gums and tongue get a nice steady workout. Big American style malty punch, citrus, pine resin, citrus and a pithiness builds, nice carbonation. For a county more known for great ciders and perries this is one heck of a beer and amongst my favourite beers of the year, it’s brilliant. Loz said she was convinced that this was a top American big hop monster. A8 A4 T9 P5 Ov14 4.4
