On tap at GABS Sydney. Slight hop nose. Deep copper beer with thin white head. Chalky mineral taste with nice bitter finish. Nice beer, subtly citric.

The brewer appears to be a joint venture between plonk marketers Casella and Coke. Might matter to some. Bottle. Clear copper with a large off-white head that lasts very well. High bead. Aroma of caramel, kumquats, pine. Medium bodied (feels a deal heavier than 5.4%), carbonation is a bit on the high side for me. Rather sweet with plenty of toffee flavours, but there are some light tropical and toasty notes that stop it from being too plain. Tenor register citrus and some pine and pepper struggle to shine all that much towards the rather bitter finish. A bit heavy on the caramel for me, but this is a pretty good effort and not a timid beer at all.

Very malty, not bitter, more English strong ale than IPA. Caramel notes, fairly substantial body, smooth and slick. Abrupt, sweet finish.

Bottle. Clear amber with a white head that lasts OK. Gutsy earthy aroma of toffee, kumquats, some tropical fruit. Sweet with sticky breadcrusts, and toffee, fruit is there but gets a little smothered. Bitterness is quite strong but has to struggle through a bit. Some pepper at the end. Sweetness and lack of dry finish makes it fairly heavy going, but it’s OK if rather unfashionable.

Pot on tap at Rising Sun Hotel Rosewood. No nose, pale amber, slight head hangs in a little. Very cold, doesn’t taste too bad. Passion fruit notes, bitter finish. This vs XXXX? This wins.
