Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours darkest brown to black with a thick, fluffy tan head. The aroma is sweet, yet savoury, salted caramel, salty pretzel, vanilla fudge, chocolate fudge cake, donuts, roasted malt, toasty and light umami. The taste is slick, bitter - sweet upfront, but then it gets sweeter, sugary, fudgey, vanilla, sticky glazed pastries, chocolate donut, roasted malt, toasty brown sugar, rocky road, touch of umami and a pleasing boozey warmth in the back end. Finish is bitter - sweet. Medium+ body and average carbonation. I was worried this was going to be far too sweet, but actually the alcohol keeps that in check.

Can from Bowhouse. Mostly clear brown body with a beige head. Steady carbonation. Patchy lacing. Aroma of stewed tea, a hint of chocolate and dried grass. Flavour of toffee and orange rind. Medium body with a slick texture. Light fizz. A nice hop combination for a well executed American Brown.
