Description
Founder Tsjomme Zijlstra's idea to start his own brewery came to him after his time in England. He started to brew his own beer at home and decided in 2014 that he wanted go bigger. He met Menno and John, owners of Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven, and told them his story. They taught him how to brew with one of their old brewing installations. Kaapse Brouwers was born.

We are Kaapse Brouwers. We are the brewers who introduced craft beer to Rotterdam, and Rotterdam to the world. With our Kaapse recipes we brew non-conformist beers. We choose for bold recipes and love to experiment with different flavors to create contemporary craft beers.

Bottle from Appellation Wines Comely Bank. Appearance - dark brown to black with a big fluffy fawn head. Nose - tangy green note. Plant stalks, green pepper and seaweed. Smoky but no chocolate. Taste - very pithy. Getting roast but no chocolate at least up front. The chocolate comes through eventually. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry and almost astringent finish. Overall - it grows and it’s unusual.

Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry and spiced, weeds, flowers, broth, hay, yeast, cloves, light malts, thyme, cardamom, bark. Taste is kind of harsh spiced, weeds, flowers, yeast, hay, bark, minerals, light malts, cloves, grass, paper. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly dry harsh mouthfeel. Fair enough, but not really my cup of tea...
