Thanks! 330 ml. bottle split by 2 train ride post - “Kaapse Brouwers 1st Anniversary Beer Festival”. BBF 10-05-2015.Hazy orange, white bubbles. Nose is rich grapefruit & citrus hops, juicy, lightly floral. Taste is juicy hops, resin, citrus, fruity, light lemon,… Juicy, easy to drink. Best Kaapse beer I have had so far out of 13. Great easy hoppy pale ale. Didn’t pick up on the bourbon.

Sampled draft @ “Kaapse Brouwers 1st Anniversary Beer Festival”. Darker orange, little white. Nose is med. sweetish & dull caramel, bread with flowers & light herbal streak. Taste is oddly sweet barrel & sugar, flowers, candy, burned sugar, herbal, dark bread,… Herbal & malty body. Nothing bad just rather dull.

Sampled draft @ “Kaapse Brouwers 1st Anniversary Beer Festival”. Hazy golden, little white head. Nose is basic lactic, sweetish lemonade, tad watery, apple, mineral, rather meh. Taste is odd, spoiled aspirin, medicinal, apple juice, sugar, lactic,… Basic lactic body. Tad watery. Ver basic & not very fun. Not a fan of this one.

Sampled draft @ “Kaapse Brouwers 1st Anniversary Beer Festival”. Ugly appearance, super murky brownish orange sludge + I saw samples with lots of greenish hop bits floating around in it. Nose is big on pine resin, cheesy hops, big bitter orange peel, somewhat watery, sugar, hugely messy,… Taste is bitter orange peel, watery, pine resin, cheesy hops, bitter herbal in the finish, very unbalanced & very messy,… Little in the way of carbonation & watery. Total mess of a beer but drinks like hop soup which keeps it from being unenjoyable because the hops are good even if this is a total mess.

Sampled draft @ “Kaapse Brouwers 1st Anniversary Beer Festival”. Black with a dash of dark brown, mocha head. Nose is good blend of heavy peat countered with chocolate, syrup & sugar sweetness. Taste is rather simple but good mix. Peat with enough sweet chocolate, coffee, sugar to counter it, light soy sauce, liquorish notes. Milk chocolate body & not overly heavy for the style, even a tad light. Simple but successful. Def. more successful effort than the French version, clearly above the average level of Kaapse.

Tap @ Kaapse Fest, small sample. Dark color, short frothy head. Aroma of peat, roast, some oatmeal cookie. Bit sweet in taste, but mostly malty bitterness. Quite some ash and peat, although not as much as the de Molen Octomore versions. Still a bit out of balance again and not my favorite kind of beer.

Tap @ Kaapse Fest, small sample. Dark brown color, short frothy head. Aroma of oak wood, red wine, some roast, bit boozy. Quite alcoholic in taste, dry, oak wood, spirit, some bitterness, slight sourish red wine. Out of balance.
