Description
Founder Tsjomme Zijlstra's idea to start his own brewery came to him after his time in England. He started to brew his own beer at home and decided in 2014 that he wanted go bigger. He met Menno and John, owners of Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven, and told them his story. They taught him how to brew with one of their old brewing installations. Kaapse Brouwers was born.
We are Kaapse Brouwers. We are the brewers who introduced craft beer to Rotterdam, and Rotterdam to the world. With our Kaapse recipes we brew non-conformist beers. We choose for bold recipes and love to experiment with different flavors to create contemporary craft beers.

Hazy yellow color with big white head - looks nice. Aroma of yeasts and a bit of sweetness, citrus. Taste is cookie dough, lemony, peppery, dry finish. Even a bit menthol/eucalyptus. A standard good saison, rather smooth in the carbonation, but fails to be something very special.

On tap at Kaapse Brouwers. Brown color with beige head. Cherries, wood, coffee, a little bit funk. Taste is coffee, fruit tartness, slightly astringent, balsamico, apples, nice coffee and sourish finish. Awesome. Just a hint too light for the 11 ABV, but maybe that?s because I had Lennie before.

On tap at Kaapse Brouwers. Hazy orange color with nice white head and good lacing. Sweet simcoe hops, mostly fruity aroma. Taste is bittersweet, heavy residual sweetness, and with a punchy body. Doesn’t feel like 10.5 ABV though. Just the right amount of carbonation. A solid Double IPA!

On tap at Kaapse Brouwers. Hazy orange color with small white head. Grapefruit, citrus fruit aroma. Taste is soothing, fruity-bitter, on the dry side, piney as well, but very lecker. A solid fruity beer, more IPA-like not only bitter. Smooth carbonation.

Bottle from het Biermoment, BB 26 Feb 2024, large sample. Dark brown color, short frothy brown lacing. Aroma of bit smoke, dark roast, chocolate, coffee, bit rhum. Quite sweet in taste, some malty bitterness, bit oatmeal cookie, slight alcohol. Bit out of balance. Lacks a bit of creaminess you would expect from an oatmeal stout.

Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Palate is smooth with modest fine carbonation. Oaty sweet dark malts. Tangy mild fruits and a little pruney dark fruits. Trace of barrel vanilla. Very mild coffee. Light smooth finish. Nicely joined up. All flavours in good balance. Very drinkable, especially for it’s abv.
