Description
Founder Tsjomme Zijlstra's idea to start his own brewery came to him after his time in England. He started to brew his own beer at home and decided in 2014 that he wanted go bigger. He met Menno and John, owners of Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven, and told them his story. They taught him how to brew with one of their old brewing installations. Kaapse Brouwers was born.

We are Kaapse Brouwers. We are the brewers who introduced craft beer to Rotterdam, and Rotterdam to the world. With our Kaapse recipes we brew non-conformist beers. We choose for bold recipes and love to experiment with different flavors to create contemporary craft beers.

Draft at Kaapse. Pours hazy Amber with an off white head. Aroma of weedy hops, grapefruit, toffee, caramel, fruits, light vinous notes, woody barrel aspects. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. A very decent hop forward American style barley wine.

Bottle, 0.33l. Hazy pale amber color with large frothy white head, yeast residue and sparkling appearance. Aroma is citric, yeasty, funky, musty and grainy. Taste starts with moderate sweet and fairly sour grainy malt, following is refreshing yeasty with fruity esters, mouthfeel is spicy, while finish is moderate bitter. Medium body, slick texture and fizzy natural carbonation in palate. Nice one...

Bouteille: Cloudy, amber, looking like a thin milk-coffee with a small and persistent "dirty" head; sweet fruity to caramelly nose with a distinctive herbal-hoppy background, traces of port-wine detectable, too; quite solid sweet-bitter flavour, surely full bodied, but not really soft; drying oit and becoming distinctively bitter towards the very end.Yes, really good…

Bottle. A minimal sized dense, light beige head forms over a dark brown body. The aroma is meaty and roasted, with some alcohol and a touch of chocolate. It’s full-bodied and lightly warming, with a pleasant carbonation level. Semi-sweet. It has a nice chocolatey touch in the flavor, with roasted malts, some dried fruits and dark sugar. Lasting finish. Quite nice this one, tasteful and moreish. 150207

330 ml bottle @ Bakgården Både &. Slightly unclear golden with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma has citric fruit with malt. Flavor is quite refreshing citric fruity, oranges, grapefruit, medium malt sweetness and decent bitterness. Medium body and decent aftertaste. This felt a bit thin and ordinary at the first sips, but it’s actually quite good even if not the most original beer.
