Description
Founder Tsjomme Zijlstra's idea to start his own brewery came to him after his time in England. He started to brew his own beer at home and decided in 2014 that he wanted go bigger. He met Menno and John, owners of Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven, and told them his story. They taught him how to brew with one of their old brewing installations. Kaapse Brouwers was born.

We are Kaapse Brouwers. We are the brewers who introduced craft beer to Rotterdam, and Rotterdam to the world. With our Kaapse recipes we brew non-conformist beers. We choose for bold recipes and love to experiment with different flavors to create contemporary craft beers.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours an opaque, deep fark brown with next to no head. Nose has subtle roast and some booze showing. Medium body, roast and dark dried fruit but gets very boozy from the rhum barrel, boozy and raw. No real rhum flavour. Roughish. I think I prefer the non barrel aged version. 090914

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a murky, dark brown with absolutely no head. Sweet roast, some licorice notes. Body is not overly rich, flat, sweet roast, some dark dried fruit and a roasty bitterness. Alcohol well hidden, but bottom line is yet another De Molen stout. 090914

Bottle 33 cl. Pours an opaque black with a creamy and lacing light brown head. Somewhat greasy hop aroma, hops blending in with the roasty malts. Medium body, sweet licorice and heavy roast and a bitternes which I believe derives from both malts and hops. Bitter licorice finish. 090914

Bottle 33 cl. Pours yellow with a slight haze and a lacing, white head. Yeasty, spicy aroma. Medium body, again spicy - almost feels as if cardamon was added, but I’m sure it’s just the Saison yeast. A little heavy on the carbonation. But another interesting Saison from De Molen....ooop, Kaapse. Sorry. Rather bitter finish. 090914

Hazy amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is softish and slightly viscous. Fine carbonation. Sweetish dry malts with caramel and spice. Finishes semi dry with a little tangy fruit and bitterness starting to bloom. Spicy bitter linger. Not bad but lacks something for a big beer.
