Draught Shardy yellowish head over hazy amber ale with a mossy sheen. Spicy nose, rainwater, some coloured malts. Liquorice, spices as Szechuan pepper, maybe a tad meaty, coloured malts. Light body, good carbonation. Amusing amber ale. A porter (as it was presented)? Never.

Couleur blonde vibrante, col fin crémeux blanc.

Summer beer by a new Walloon microbrewery, started up in 2022 by brewer Philippe Jottay and named after “Les Coccinelles” (literally “The Ladybirds”), a local youth club. Thick and dense, foamy, egg-white head towering over a hazy peachy orange blonde beer, turning lightly beige-tinged with sediment. Aroma of unripe peach, field flowers, apple blossoms, tulips, green melon, brioche, bread crust, a vague vanilla-ish accent, pear, clove, baker’s yeast, honey, some faint iron and a pinch of dust in the end when the sediment is added. Fruity onset, only lightly sweet with a slim sourish undertone, notes of peach and apple peel, fizzily carbonated; dryish core, slender-bready and cereally pale malts, light-bodied with a metallic edge to it. Florally hopped finish, delicate field flower, blossom, freshly cut grass and unripe spring fruit accents here and there but all very light; bitterness also remains light and subtle. Some dusty yeast elements linger at the back – somewhat disturbing the intentional light-footed and gracious character of this ‘feminine’ and flowery summer quencher. Elegance executed relatively well, though a more outspoken hop character (even bitterness) would have been welcoming to me and the dusty yeast aspect could also have been a tad cleaner.
