Description
In mythology, literature and many cultures, the Raven is seen as a culture hero, a revered and benevolent, transformative figure. The Raven helps people, blesses them with gifts and shapes the world. But at the same time, he is a frivolous trickster, a light-hearted prankster who is sometime gluttonous and impatient. The Raven as our totem works perfectly. We like to think we are creative, wise, playful and a bit bird-brained; just like those wacky Ravens.

Moving my review from the Non-Brett beer. Aroma is a balanced blend of tropical fruit and wine barrel with some light malt character in the background. Could perhaps use some phenolics to balance out the fruitiness, but I think the oak does that fairly well. Appearance is a super clear yellow-gold. Flavor is similar to aroma with tropical fruit, wine and oak dominating. A nice assertive bitterness in the finish helps cleanse the palate. Once again, phenolics are lacking a bit. Perhaps a touch too tannic. Overall a very enjoyable Saison. I am very happy to have discovered this beer when I was in Seattle for NHC. I wish I had brought back more than 3 bottles.

So, I filled up a 750mL growler from Town Hall with this beer at Chuck’s Central District on Wednesday to take to RBSG PDX 2015 on Thursday. The day of the grand tasting this did not get a chance to be opened b/c THERE WAS SOOO MUCH BETTER BEER. At the Grand Tasting after-party on the patio at Eastside Lodge, which was comprised of me, hayduke, strykezone, sledutah, ferris, mcberko, djd07, Prufrock, and a flying half eaten donut, this finally got cracked, oh some time near midnight. Of the 25oz, maybe 5 got poured out. I then placed this back int he growler and eventually went back to the airbnb room. Next morning, I wake up and check the cooler, well this beer dripped out a few ounces. Eventually, I went to a vegetarian breakfast with Pruf and berko. Eventually made it back to Seattle, despite the damn traffic around Olympia and Tacoma. Around 9pm I started cleaning out the cooler again. I realized I forgot to open a growler and the other growlers were mostly full. Well, despite the beer debauchery I thought beer shouldn’t be wasted. So, I poured the rest of this beer and texted my RBSG buddy, Pruf. He asked what I think of the beer. I replied with the following: "Not bad. no aspects I usually dislike in an impy stout. Maybe I’ll make that my rating."

Draft pour pint at the brewery. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a cream foam head. Mild nutty, chocolate aroma. Flavor is a nice roasted flavor with hints of coffee. Chocolate candy in the late palate. Has a bitterness to it in the finish as well. Enjoy the toasty flavor here. Good brown here. Or porter? Not sure. It’s good though.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours bright orange/copper with a beige head. Aroma of fruit hop. Some mild roast malt. Med body, or nearly. Flavor is roasty malt with a fair amount of citrus and earthy hop. Might even be pine. It’s flavorful, with lots of hop, and the bitterness definitely balances the malt. Pretty good for 4.8%.
