Description

Sampled from bottle (2007 vintage thanks to Alengrin) @ Tim needs to get rid of his ticks tasting. Clear very pale yellow golden color, almost watery even, no head. Smell and taste some malts, some wort, a bit metallic, cardboard. Watery texture. Didn’t age too well. But what’s to expect from a low able table beer.

Very unusual winter beer since it comes from a very low-profile brewery which otherwise produces only table beers. Vinous, spicy, sweet and honeyish, light acidity; unlike most other Belgian Christmas ales, but I liked it. Not sure if they still do this every year, though.

The ’tripel’ version among Gigi’s table beers, with loose, unstable, snow white head and ’dirty’ orange blonde colour, clear. Aroma dominated by saccharose (artificial sweetener), grainy, chamomille, some grassy hops, vague impression of wild yeast, bit lightstruck too. Grainy taste with sweet saccharose, some herbal, mild bitterish hops in the finish but less so than in the Gigi Double Blonde and therefore a tad too sweet - though I can easily forgive this in view of this particular beer style. Gigi remains the most authentic and best table beer producer in Belgium, glad I’ve been there.

The best known table beer from a very old-fashioned, little known Wallonian brewery that hardly makes anything else and distributes its products only locally. Loose, off-white, quickly dissolving head, colour pale orange blonde with brownish hue, clear, very little sparkling. Weakish aroma of caramel, pilsener malt, honey, saccharose, straw, sweat, grass. Neutral onset evolving into artificial sweetener, nutty malts, dryish spicy notes, thin mouthfeel as custom for the style, finish in a surprisingly sharpish, long, authentic hop bitterness, which is a rare feature in table beers - or in any low-alcohol beer, for that matter. In its particular style, at least an interesting product.

Bottled. A dark golden beer with a white head. The aroma has notes of hops, straw, and malt. The flavor is very sweet with notes of unfermented grain, sugar, malt, and straw, leading to a dry finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

Bottle 25 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a clear golden with a white head. Artificial and perfumy nose. Thin body, oddly perfumy and sticky sweet relieved by a surprisingly hoppy finish. A very strange and very unbalanced beer. 080910
