This beer is a very dark brown color with a medium thin off-white head that evaporates steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is berry-forward with a bit of chocolate in the background. Light body with a raspberry character and chocolate malt backbone, as well as a bit of mild coffee. The finish is tart with a raspberry aftertaste. Decent overall.

22oz bottle pours a thick, opaque black with one ring of beige head. Nose is tons of molasses, super sweet, toffee, vanilla, cherry cola, heavy licorice, unfermented wort and light toast. Flavor is super sugary, heavy licorice, heavy molasses, heavy vanilla extract, chocolate covered cherry cordial, some sticky undercooked brownie. Full bodied, overly sweet finish. Way off balance. A little hard to drink because of the viscosity and the overwhelming sweetness. Could have used less alcohol in order to get some more barrel flavors.

22oz bottle pours a translucent, chestnut brown with a very foamy, of white head. Nose is kind of weird, almost smells a touch infected. There are aromas of nuts, toasted bread, light chocolate, but also something cardboard, a bit stale. Flavor is better, dried chocolate powder, some nuts, a little malt, some very light molasses. Finish is medium bodied, lightly dry but a little watery. I think if they had kicked up the alcohol and improved the body this beer would have been a lot better. As is, it’s a little weak and over promises while it under delivers.
