Description
Volkan beer is the first Greek beer born in Santorini, inspired and made from the finest local ingredients of the Cycladic islands. Santorini is volcanic and unique. Our spectacular island receives little rainfall, so what grows is intense in flavour and aromas and limited in quantity. In brewing Volkan we bring together, lava rock filtered mineral water and the best of local ingredients; rare Santorini grape honey and ancient citrus medica essence from Naxos.

33cl Bottle at Scritto, on Syros, Greece. It’s a black wheat lager, dry stout in taste imo. Certainly not a dunkelweizen. Almost black in colour, light beige head. Aroma of cold watery coffee, hard roasted malts. Flavour is dry, cold watery coffee, hard roasted malts, much like a watery (!) Guinness draught. No trace of the mentioned citrus and honey. Meh..

33cl bottle. Pours like a coffee with red tints at the side - there is a decent crema head. The nose has liquorice and molasses and spiced biscuits. The taste has more spiced biscuits and liquorice again. The palate is medium bodied with a a medium sized tangy and a decent finish - not cloying but on the other hand it just disappears. Overall, a much better beer than the blonde.

33cl bottle. Pours golden with a nice layer of lace - hardly any bubbles. The nose has honey and herbs with perhaps dried ginger. The taste honey, cornflakes and nuts with a toffee note on the end. The palate is light to medium in body and texture with a fairly clean finish, though not refreshing really. Overall, it’s drinkable but not amazing.
