Description
Marsine Brewery:
Nicolas Declercq and Tanguy van der Eecken started their adventure in 2013. Their plan? To recreate a brewery in the impressive Marsinne farm and country house in the Hesbaye village of Couthuin. From the very beginning, beyond the pair’s passion for malt and hops, the project adopted a sustainable dimension. A brewery, yes, but a fair, responsible and equitable one!

Léopold 7:
A little known fact is that a brewery already existed on the site around the mid 19th century. Legend has it (confirmed by ancient documents found in dusty trunks) that it was run by a certain Léopold. It was clear what the name for the product should be to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity.
As for the number 7, it’s simple! Our beers are made from 7 ingredients: three types of cereals (two malts and one wheat), and three types of hops (two aromatic and one bitter). The seventh ingredient is what we call the Léopold touch: an unconventional aromatic bouquet that gives our beers their characteristic flavour.

The future is now!:
In 2020, Nicolas Declercq is the only remaining original member, but the Léopold 7 team has grown over the years with the addition of three young brewers, two sales representatives and a new director, all of whom are passionate about brewing. Strengthened by this shared passion, we are devoted to creating new, modern and unconventional beers, always remaining faithful to the Léopold 7 values: 100% craft production, local sourcing and sustainable values at every stage of the elaboration of our beers, which are all brewed on site. Our latest creations, sold in premium 100% recyclable aluminium cans, are to be enjoyed however you like!

Caña en el Lupulo 15..04..2016. (r00). Color rubio amarillento casi turbio con espuma Blanca. Aromas y sabores belgas dulces algo afrutados con toques de maderas y vinos blancos frescos acabando con suaves herbaceos. Poco amargo, casi nada, al final. Cuerpo medio fino y algo pastoso y espumoso. Buena y bastante original. Para repetir.

Bottle from Bottles N Bins in Monterey, CA. Pours coppery gold with a white head. Aroma is floral and yeast; maybe a touch of spice. Med body or better. Flavor is floral, yeast, slightly roasty malt, some light non-citrus fruit. Within limits it has me thinking Best Bitter. It has that floral lilt of many English ales. If Bud tasted like this, I’d probably drink Bud.

Pours hazy dark amber. The tawny head disappears quickly. Aroma is very subtle. Starts smelling of iron oxide, corn flakes, honey and banana. As temperature grows, new aromas appear: red berries, apple, juniper, orange. Soft, watery, light. Not really persistent.

Keg at Delirium, Brussels. It pours cloudy golden-orange with a decent, foamy white head. The nose is bitter-sweet, doughy, juicy, hay, creamy malts, muffin and light candy. The taste is smooth, bitter-sweet, dough, toasted grain, cereal, muffin, grassy bitterness, light fruitiness and some honey. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Well-balanced and rather drinkable. A solid Belgian ale.

Blonde session beer from a new Wallonian micro brewery; very thick and frothy, dense, off-white, irregular head captured after a strong form of gushing; hazy orange blonde colour, near to amber, with medium effervescence. Estery aroma of peach, banana, redcurrant, strawberry, caramel, mango, honey, fairly strong suggestions of liquorice, cloves, chicken broth and cured meat. Sweet onset, subdued fruitiness, somewhat sugary, resinous and smooth body, with the sticky resin effect increasing towards the finish; caramelly malts supporting an almost cloying, ’dull’ spiciness of cloves and liquorice (as mentioned above), strong and sharp carbo, protein-like taste components. Finish is a continuation of the same, with a hint of floral, ’shy’ hops; the initial sweetness keeps dominating, with no ’real’ bitterness to speak of, apart from the resinous, idiosyncratic spiciness (no spices are mentioned, but they are very clearly there). Not bad at all, but a bit more hop bitterness would probably make it better.
