Clear copper brown color, with medium-sized off-white head, lace. Aroma of English hops and notes of roast and caramel. Interesting mouthfeel: medium-bodied with toffee and slightly roasted malt tones. Very good late bitterness in the aftertaste. Very British and very well-balanced, similar to some Fuller’s brews.

Almost opaque dark ruby, creamy expresso head. Aroma has roast, cold coffee and hints of hops. Medium to full bodied, lots of roast with hints of sugar. Bitter finish. There is just something plastic in the palate which prevents this to being an excellent.

Rerate - previously sampled at the RBESP 2004, but it had a hard time to push through in that line-up, I was happy to be able to try it again
Red brown, tanned creamy head. Roasted notes, nut , chocolate, minerally strawberry. Slightly cardboardy bready malt. Good body, mellow mouthfeel. Milk chocolate and nut aftertaste. Vey nice harmonious brew.

Black beer; dark brown head. Sourish, nearly fishy (smoked Swedish herring or mackerel?) aroma, with some porridge-like notes, and dill (for the fish?). Cigarette ash, typical oatmeal flavour, certain acidity. Bitterish background, partly hops, partly carbonised. Well-filled texture, but lighter body, apt. This is a good beer, but where some people rave about, is beyond me.

Red-brown beer, some haze; rapidly dwindling yellowish head. Dark chocolate, chalk and something like drainwater - little nose, chocolate malts dominate. Little hint of hops all the same, after much searching. Bitter, very hoppy flavour, blending with a sweeter, chocolate taste, hence bitter chocolate - or bitter grapes as the hops are quite fruity in flavours. Ends a bit harsh. Medium bodied, moderate burning (not alcohol). Another good one by Jämtlands, again I wonder at the ESB designation. This time, I’d say old ale.

Darker amber with a greenish shine; small, yellowish dense head. Hops (British), liquorice and a spice - juniper?, some bready notes as well and brown candi sugar. Again rather sweetish liqourice-like taste, alleviated with spicey and hoppy notes. I seem to think of juniper again, and laurel - as herbs for venison stew. Is there a (serious) tad of diacetyl? Unbelievably well-bodied for a " bitter" - Swedish style, yes. And the diacetyl, of course. Very good beer. But even "E.S." Bitter is not this - I’ve had old ales that couldn’t stand up to this.

Straw-golden, very big bubbled to small, transparent head. Very grainy nose, warm summergrain, chaff. Toasted malts, not overly sweet taste. Tad of medicinal flavour in the background. Finish is dry, metallic-hoppy. Light bodied. Nothing but a ’luxus’ Pilsner, really.
