Description

Two locals, whose grandparents were still working in the mine, developed the beers. The plan to brew on a large scale soon followed. The first liters of Kompel beer poured out of the tanks at Brouwerij Anders! Kompel Bovengronds was quickly successful and six months later Kompel Ondergronds came onto the market. Between the summer of 2015 and 2018, the beers were brewed at Kasteelbrouwerij Ter Dolen in Houthalen-Helchteren. Since 2019, the beers have been brewed on a larger scale at the Pilot Brewery in Lochristi.

Bottled 330ml (Hoptimaal)
Amber colour, medium-sized white head and some lace. Light fruityness and touch of grass in the nose. Light-bodied. Light caramel and then citrus. Easy clean finish. Quite typical but boring old school Belgian pale ale.

Huge white head over hazy, well-carbonated yellow beer, shards of lace. Sweet, almost vanilla-like nose, molasses, sweet almonds, bit herbal. Dry, spicy/herbal flavour, garden herbs & weeds, leaves. Candi sugar, other grains, alcohol(sweetness). Quite aggressively carbonated; very slick, slight alcoholwarming. The 4 grain idea might have made it interesting, but the result doesn't convince me. Small, if quite stable, very dense white head leaving shards of lace over well-carbonated, veiled orangey golden beer. Peppery nose, pale malts, white candi sugar, sweetened citruspeel. Again peppery, spicy malts with white candi sugar in the background. Starts dry, main taste sports restsugars, finishing drier again. There's a fade kind of citrus. Warming up, sweet soft pear. Light body, faint alcoholimpression, well-carbonated. Run-of-the-mill. Txs to Stef!

Fles gedeeld door Roelzie, geprobeerd met TomvV. Het is een troebel oranje bruin bier met een volle beige schuim. Het heeft een aroma van hout, vanille en een hint rum. De smaak is moutig, zacht, kruidig en rum in de afdronk.

Fles gekregen van Roelzie. Het is een helder goudgeel bier met een volle witte schuimkraag. Het heeft een moutige geur. De smaak is moutig, zacht en licht hoppig.

Bottle from Cafe Frape Maastricht. Clear gold colour lasting white head. A little musty on aroma too fizzy in mouth. Some citrus fruit. Not a great beer. Pretty ordinary

0.33 l bottle from 'Hello Bier', best before March 2024. A bit hazy, golden with a medium large, fluffy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, slightly floral aroma of corn flakes, honey and pear. Quite sweet, slightly malty, hardly bitter and a little floral taste of grains, corn flakes, some honey and hints of pear, followed by a short, slightly bitter, a little dry finish. Thin to medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay.

33cl bottle from Albert Heijn supermarket in Maasmechelen. F: big, tan, good retention. C: deep gold, light hazy. A: banana, apples, peach, spicy, bit sherry. T: full malty base, banana, bready, apples, dried fruits, bit sherry, bit woody, medium carbonation, decent bitterness, nice one, enjoyed.

33cl bottle from Albert Heijn supermarket in Maasmechelen. F: huge, snow-white, long lasting. C: straw, hazy. A: malty, orange, grapes, bit herbal, peach, apples. T: full malty base, orange, grapes, peach, biscuits, nice balanced bitterness, higher carbonation, actually this is more like IPA – Brut than Belgian Ale - Strong Pale so in this way enjoyable for sure.
