500ml bottle from Kris Wines. Vinegar aroma from the off with a nasty sour taste that conjurs rotting dog bone with biscuit malts and some more vinegar. I presume something very wrong has happened with the bottle conditioning process for it to taste this bad. Will have to re-rate with another bottle or find it on cask somewhere.

The Rake. Wooden Cask. Clear deep red - amber beer, not much of a head. Lovely nose of sherry, port and toffee. Light semi dry palate. Taste follows the nose largely - there are a lot of esters here, making for a slight paint vibe, too much really. Touch of dried fruits and spice. Dry finish. Very interesting.

Bottled 330ml ABM. Clear deep amber-copper color, small beige head. Earthy-spicey, lightly resiny hoppyness, some caramel in the nose. Light to medium-bodied. Caramel malt base, then piney-spicey hoppyness covers the intial sweetness. Lingering bitterness. In its style, nice brew.

Deep ruby color, small beige head, some lace. Some caramel, fruity mentholic hoppyness. Light to medium bodied, oily palate. Caramel, berries, some harsh bitterness. Rye is not dominating here. A bit lame.

Bottle picked up Tuesday 15th October 2013 from ’Jacks’, Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon, consumed at home Sunday 3rd November 2013 Pours dark brown with a little ruby glinting through. I am cooking curry so being exact on the aroma is actually quite tricky, however there is a little milkiness, some maltiness and perhaps chocolate not a lot else though. In the mouth a little weak coffee, roasty with a late roastiness that lingers a little, a bit of milk chocolate its fine. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov13 3.3

Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate hoppy, grapefruit. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, caramel, grapefruit, hoppy, hop bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20130809]

Cask at Great British Beer Festival 2013. Poured a hazy golden colour with a thin white head. Grassy aroma with floral hop notes and some elderberry. Citrus flavours with straw and some biscuit. Finishes with orange peal, candy sugar and cereal.
