Cask @ Salopian, the pub. Dark pour, off-white head. Aroma is sweet with mild toffee and chocolate shades. Continues to taste, light and silky on the palate with just enough chocolate and toffee emerging, not overly sweet thankfully. Decent overall.

Half a pint on cask at the Hallcross. Thin creamy beige head. Clear almost black pour. Lots of orange and a bit of chocolate. Very good.

Bottle. Beer Central Sheffield. Medium to deep gold. Moderate haze. Good white froth. Nose has suitably twangy hoppage. Some tart stone fruit. Tea leaf maybe. Lush green grass. Sweet biscuit malt backdrop. Taste has a tangy bitterness. Touch of hop spice. Sweetness on the lips. Clean and refreshing on the palate. Medium foamy carbonation. Twangy bitterness to finish. Nice one.

Bottle. Beer Central Sheffield. Medium haze. Medium gold. Good depth of white suds. Nose has floral herb. Grapefruit rind. Some light piny notes. Clean malts. Taste has a biscuity sweetness with a nicely piny citrus bitterness. Easy going with fine brisk carbonation. Pithy finish with some dryness.

Bottle. Beer Central Sheffield. Light haze on a pale gold. Good dense white swede. Nose has lemon jelly fruit. Tickle of creamy Sabro. Clean dry malt. Taste is light dry and light bitter. Hint of sweetness. Light body with fine carbonation. Fresh bitter finish. Doesn’t pop too much but it’s a refreshing easy drinker.

Bottle. Beer Central Sheffield. Moderate haze on a deep amber gold. Thick and firm just off white foam. Looks well. Nose has sweet biscuit malt. Touch of spice. Juicy Fruit gum. Sweet berry fruit. Some minty herb. Taste is pretty sweet first off, with a dank and sappy bitterness. Super slick and slightly oily mouthfeel with soft carbonation. This is tasty gear. Slick and fruity bitterness to finish. I can fully imagine dropping on this on cask and getting truly wankered off it.

Cast at Alexandra, Derby. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small cream head and good lacing. There’s hints of roast malts and molasses in the aroma, but they’re only vague. In the mouth it’s slightly sweet and a tad watery. Plenty of chocolate but the orange (although there) is in much shorter supply. Caramel and coca are to hand as well, all leading to a fairly sweet finish. Reasonable, but doesn’t have much porter characteristic.

Bottle. Beer Central Sheffield. Light haze on a medium gold. Fluffy lasting white foam. Nose has clean dry malt. Floral hop errs toward lavender and such. Some citrus pith and peel. Taste is clean pithy bitter. Refreshing on the palate with some dryness. Soft brisk carbonation. Rising bitterness to finish. Loads of flavour at the ABV.
