Description
Kirkstall Brewery was inspired by the rich brewing history of Kirkstall village, which later formed part of the city of Leeds. The brewing company boasts a rich history spanning from the 12th century, where the Cistercian monks founded Kirkstall Abbey and began the area’s brewing legacy. The original Kirkstall Brewery was founded in 1871 and was in operation till 1983 when it was closed by its last owners, Whitbread. The buildings have been well preserved and are now home to students of Leeds Metropolitan University. The new Kirkstall Brewery is located on the Leeds Liverpool canal, in the shadow of the original brewery, reviving the tradition of brewing in Kirkstall and the inspiration to once again make the name famous for great beer.

Keg @ Robin Hood, Pontefract. Golden with a pinkish glow and a head. Not too much plum or sourness really. You'd recognise the style, but less so the fruit

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from the brewery’s website. Pours just musty yellow-hold with a tight, creamy white head. Light sweet flavour with notes of green citrus, pale grain, bread crust, rindy bitterness, a little pine, dankness, papaya. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly growing (and refreshing) bitterness in the finish, a nice dank tropical vibe, background pale malts. A little weedy. This one really grew on me.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from Kirkstall online. Pours clear, pale gold with a quickly fading fizzy white head. Light sweet flavour with pleasant pale bready malts, mild citrus fruit accents, subtle bitter hay, pine. Light bodied with spritzy carbonation. Clean finish, nicely balanced, fresh pale bread, mellow bitter pine needles. Tasty.

26/11/2024. Cask at The Cross Keys - Holbeck, Leeds. Cask Tuesday pint for £3.50 bargain. Pours close to black with a lasting frothy beige head. Aroma is chocolate, light roasted malt, caramel, vanilla custard, mild sticky toffee pudding notes. Expected something much sweeter but this was nicely balanced sweetness/bitterness, not at all cloying. Medium body, smooth, soft carbonation. Enjoyable pint.
