Description
Hambleton Brewery was born in 1991, when Nick Stafford decided to start a brewery at the bottom of his in-laws’ garden.in a converted outbuilding at the brewer's in-laws house in Holme-on-Swale. Success of the beers lead to a need to expand which resulted in a moved to a location at the opposite end of the village, The Brewery, Holme-on-Swale, in 1994. Brewing capacity was doubled in 2000. The brewery relocated to its current address in 2007.

Bottled, patch 1297 (BB 10/2006). Very dark ruby color, good tan head. Aroma has chocolate, roasted malts and bready barley. Medium to full bodied. Ashy (tobacco), cold coffee and toasted malts in the flavor, also like flavor of burnt rye bread. Very "dark" stout with lots of roast and toast. At least interesting.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a clear, dark amber with a small, off-white head. Sweetish aroma of malt and caramel. Medium body with a sirupy sweetness being very dominant - a rather extreme sweetness. Accents of nuts and caramel. No bitterness. A somewhat dubious pleasure. 220406

A brown beer with a slight red shine and a thick but quite fluffy dark brown head. The aroma is sweet and very roasted, combined with notes of dark bitter chocolate. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt and chocolate, and raw cocoa powder, leading to a dry roasted end lending some dryness from the cocoa powder. The mouthfeel is smooth and thick, until the dry aftertaste sets in.
