Caramel aroma. Light copper color with a rapidly diminishing white (or beige) head. Medium body with crisp, plentiful carbonation. The flavor is caramel well balanced with bitter. It finishes fairly dry with a good dose of bitter. Probably floral hop as per description. It’s really quite tasty, and the bitter builds as consumption continues.

Clear bottle. BB 081408. Darkish roast malt aroma. Like a dunkel in a way. Very dark amber/brown color with a non-persisting white head. Thin to medium body with near creamy carbonation. Roasted malt - more than roasted caramel. There is near toasted flavor that lingers on the tongue. It’s more dry than sweet, and there is mild bitter. The special characteristic is that as the liquid flows away that uncommon (for a lager) toasted flavor remains. It’s pretty decent.

Bottle as Cerveza Mexicali Beer. Clear bottle. First impression was skunk, but that’s wrong. Second impression is like a touch of English ale (say Tanner’s Jack). Third impression is it is something a bit different. Light golden color, but in some light it goes orangey. The white head was impressive, but left immediately. Medium bodied with near fizzy carbonation. The flavor is decent malt. The hop is hard to pin down, but there is an appropriate level of bitter. The aftertaste reminds of the original Near Beer, but arguably better (that’s based on really old memory). There’s even a slight fruit hint in the finish. Slightly spicy hop. It’s not fair to bad mouth this stuff. A decent pale lager. Something like a really light version of Tanners Jack.

Bottle, blue. (RBNAG 07) I wasn’t too optimistic considering it being Mexican, but it was far from bland or bad. There was a dark brown, clear pour, topped by a beige head, making it look quite sexy. The aroma was sweet malty and roasted, with a slightly sour touch, and that went for the flavor as well. Actually, the flavor was not as sweetish as the nose, and it had a wee rubbery touch, but it was quite nice. It had a medium to full body, slightly astringent in the mouth, and finished with a lasting roasted flavor. To sum it up, a pleasant surprise. (071103)

Bottle from Bitter Virtue, Southampton- Dark in colour with a tan head. A fruity aroma with roasted malts. Flavour is slightly sour with coffee and chocolate detected. A pleasant beer.

Bottle at RBNAG 07. Red brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, coffee, caramel. Flavour is sweet, coffee, caramel, apple, malt, roasted. Ordinary beer.

500ml bottle @ RBNAG’07. Clear red/brown body with a medium beige head. Aroma is sweet malty and slightly roasted. Flavor is quite sweet, malty, some caramel and a hint of roastiness. A bit halfway there, everywhere or something.

Bottle. Sour corn malt aroma. Medium yellow with large white head. Sweet corn malt flavor - actually a nice flavor. A very nice pale lager - not too sweet, not skunked like many Mexican imports. The best Mexican lager I’ve tasted outside of Mexico. Infinitely better than Corona.

Thin yellowish beige head. Dark reddish brown body, barely translucent. Sweetish soapy papery roasty aroma with perfumy mosquito spray notes. Dry acidic watery burnt taste with papery vinegar notes. Did not like this. (0.5l bottle at RBNAG’07.)

Bottle at home ... Deep brown black ... rich slightly smokey roast malts nose ... roast malts bit thin and bit tart sour in linger ... little blackcurrent ... little caramel. It grew on me over time.
