Cask @ Waddington Arms, Waddington. Caramel coloured with a creamy head. Bitter in character with plenty of grain in its taste alongside a caramel sweetness.

Cask @ Milson Rhodes, Didsbury. Very dark red with a thick frothy head. The vanilla gives it a lovely milky roasted malt character with a good aroma. However, it’s much more stated in its taste where chocolate is evident.

Half-pint (cask) outside The Snowdon, Llandudno on 11th June 2014. Light amber body with a wispy white head. Malts rule the nose with a slight citrus hint from whatever hops they’ve used. The format continues into the taste with semi-sweet maltiness leading the way over some citrus flavouring hops. OK but no world beater.

Cask at the Victoria Inn, Rugby, 04/06/14. Very lightly hazed golden with a well appointed off white head of bubbles. Nose is orchard fruits, apple, straw, toffee apple, bread dough. Taste comprises vanilla custard, green apple, bread dough, faint hops, light citrics. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close with light bitterness. Mediocre golden blonde, NOT an APA - where the fugg(les) are the hops ? Just cos the brewer calls it an APA doesn’t mean it should be added as one!!

Sweetest beer I had at the 2014 Lincoln Beer Festival: I liked it. Half-pint. Mahogany and clear, with a light beige crown on top. Malty molasses in the form of caramel and toffee flavours ruled the aroma and taste with the hops well hidden but strong enough to prevent the malts running away with their sweetness. A beer for the sweet toothed amongst us.

Half-pint at the 2014 Lincoln beer festival. Nice chestnut coloured body with an off-white covering. Dry mouthfeel and aftertaste but leaning towards maltiness in both the aroma and taste, mild fruitiness just below the surface: easy drinking Bitter.

Hand-pulled pint in Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, Oakengates on 6th May 2014. Why call a beer an IPA and then load it with malts rather than hops? Anyway the golden pour had an off-white head that tried to stay but didn’t. The aroma and taste were of treacle and calamel, no hop notes to be found: I enjoyed it, but it is not an IPA as I know it.

Cask (Isis, Sunderland) - Golden in colour. Tea, hints of malt and lemon in the aroma. Lemon, lime and biscuity malt in the taste. Not bad, but nothing I will rush to try again.
