Description
We are an Independent Family Brewer based in Dudley which has brewing on the same site since 1915.

The Brewery is still run by the fourth generation of The Holden Family and whilst they all enjoy a very much hands on approach to the business, they are still just as committed to their proud history and heritage and to the generations to come.

An unusual foray for Holdens - a sort of light mild. Up to their usual quality though!

Cask at Great Western, Wolverhampton. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a small scummy off-white head and good lacing. There’s definitely bacon in the aroma, along with malts and some hints of chocolate. Roast malts again in the mouth, along with floral hops, honey and traces of treacle. Later on some vanilla comes through as well. Finish is slightly bitter. This is rather nice – though it’s not really a full blown Black IPA – nowhere near hoppy enough.

Bottle shared at the columbus tasting 22/032023. Many thanks. Leighton. Aclear cola brown coloured with a halo of beige head. Aroma is old , dusty books, caramel, dust, apple. Flavour is composed of oily, cara. Meh.

Canary Wharf bottleshare. Thanks to LKS. Clear deep brown beer, a few tan bubbles. Smooth palate, zero carbonation. Oxidised tasting malts, some caramel, thin creamy malts. Some ripe fruits. Light semi dry finish. Not bad all things considered.

Bottle shared in a conference. Picked up from GBBF probably. Pours clear red-brown with no head. Medium sweet flavour, some tobacco, burnt honey, light oxidation, cardboard from the attic. Medium bodied, oily, soft. Bitter finish, toasted hay, old honey. So so.

27/1/2023. Cask at the 14th Colchester Winter Ale Festival. Pours clear golden with a small frothy white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, straw, touch of butter. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Moderate body, slightly oily, soft carbonation. Nice bittersweet finish. It's fine.

Cask at the Hollybush, Stourport. Pours light gold with a small head. Aroma is slightly eggy grain. Taste is grainy throughout with a slightly acrid finish.
