Great Newsome Brewery
Regional Brewery in Winestead, East Yorkshire, England 🏴
Established in 2007
We don’t try to reinvent the wheel. We keep it simple, using superb natural ingredients to make beer that you can sit back and enjoy, without even thinking about it. Which in our opinion is the sign of a very good pint indeed. It’s traditional craft beer with a modern twist.
Growing our own malting barley gave us a good start and we have since developed special strains of yeast as well as experimenting with homegrown hops, although they are difficult this far north.
Visiting our shop, you’ll be sure of a tail wagging welcome from our English Springer Spaniels, descendants of the late Jem, our mascot who is fondly remembered on bottle labels and draft beer bar tags.

Bottle. Aroma is roasty malt with caramel, burnt notes. Nicely bitter, lightly sweetish, finishes dry. Light body. An easy classic English Porter.

Sample courtesy of Grumbo via SHIG, cheers. Aroma is malty, floral, grainy with hints of caramel. Taste is quite thin and watery. Not a lot of carbonation and not a lot to it.

Bottle from House of Trembling Madness. Pours a light clear amber with small white head. Aroma of caramel, tinned peach, light floral. Taste of marmalade and malts, some biscuit and caramel, tingle of spice. Light to medium bodied although a little chewy. Its ok, quite pleasant but very basic IPA wise.

Cask @ Seven Stars, Manchester. Golden with a head. Fuller-bodied without the obvious strength, probably because of its cleaner tasting water which makes it slip down the palate with a smoothness. Hoppy, very mildly spiced indigenous fruitiness. Some bitterness available.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A bright amber pour with a loose white head; grainy aroma with a touch of citrus; crisp grainy body with some citrus peel; then a dry floral finish with a little warmth. Rather lacking in depth, given the ABV.
