Description
Sourmena Brew is a nomadic brewery from the homonymous district in the south of Athens! The search for a new hobby that evolved into a passion for brewing, was born in the days of the harsh quarantine of covid19. A group of young people worked at a feverish pace in an underground homebrewery on experimenting with new recipes in order to produce fresh, hand-crafted, high-quality beer with pure ingredients that go beyond the "habit" of simple lager beers.

Since the beginning of summer 2021 we have been brewing in a certified modern brewery and our creations have been officially launched into the market and have taken their place in the fridges of notable stores, among great microbrewery beers.

19th November 2024 Panda thanks to Cloin. Pretty much a clear gold beer, decent bubbly off white head. Light smooth palate, modest fine carbonation on the back end. Light smooth malts, quite the floral sweetness again (again as in another Greek brew exhibiting this characteristic). Light piney hops into decent candy fruits, kinda Opal Fruits but without the sugary sweetness. A little more floralness on the back end along with mild bitter citrus and a hint of hop spice. Liked this despite a couple of curious aspects.

Can in the hotel on Aegina, picked up from either Tales of Ales or Barley Cargo in Athens, 13/10/24. Moderately hazed golden to light orange topped with a just off white covering that thins to a swirl. Nose is ripe tropical fruits, grass, pine nip, melon, mandarin, papaya. Taste comprises orange pith, grapefruit, pine resin, mango, melon, grass. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spliced with juicy come lightly resinous hop bitterness. Tidy hop shizzle.

33cl tap bij Funky Hops Naxos. Troebel diepgouden kleur, witte kraag. Licht funky, lijkt of er hier bij elk bier een klein Brettje in zit, citrus, behoorlijk bitter, licht moutig, bittere finish. Lichte tot medium body. Lekker, maar geen NEIPA.

Bottle. Cloudy orange sporting an ok white head. Aroma of pineapple and passion fruit with hints of coconut. Taste of mangos, caramel, passion fruits, lemons and pineapple. Low bitterness. Medium to strong carbonation. Full bodied and juicy. Good stuff.

50cl can at Plaka, chania red with a white to pink head. aroma of fresh raspberries and slightly sour beer, sort of like a fruited berliner weisse. bit of funk flavor is well sour with a perfectly fitting sour raspberries note. Really delicious, and sour enough to be interesting. very well balanced sour.

aroma is layers of roasted malts, faintnote like honey. a very roasted malty stout, but very balanced too. awesome aroma from just 5.5%alc. flavor is hard roasted malts, licorice, black caramel, so hard roasted it borders burnt plastic, dark licorice. more messy than aroma and the burnt plastic+black caramel+licorice+bitter herbs distracts from the otherwise quite nice roasted hops. still, a drinkable black flavor-bomb at only 5.5% alc.

Nice strong citrussy hoppy aroma, also some bitter-flowery notes, not much sweet malts in the aroma, more grainy nutty notes. Flavor is rounded and easy drinking NEIPA, but with a flowery-bitter , fruit-peel-bitter note that does stick out a bit and goes stronger in the aftertaste - i would have preferred more of an hoppy-bitter, pine/grapefruit bitter note instead.
