Magpie Brewery
Microbrewery
in Nottingham,
Nottinghamshire,
England 🏴
Associated Venue: Barrel Drop
Established in 2006
Magpie certainly isn’t the fledgling it once was, with the addition of three pubs, Crafty Crow, Barrel Drop and Doctor’s Orders, where you can experience our great ales and the best of independent brews from near and far. In 2019 The Crafty Warehouse bottle shop and taproom were established next to the brewhouse, where you can buy directly from the brewery or stop for a pint. If you’re a true magpie, remember to check our social media for information on pre-match drinks!
Despite our evolution from 2006, ultimately Magpie began with a passion for beer and a love of the craft, and that’s something that we’ve maintained. We aim to bring you the finest beer, made from the finest ingredients – no shortcuts, no compromises.

Handpull cask at BeerHeadZ, Nottingham. Very dark brown, not very translucent. Ring of khaki head. Lots of chocolate on the nose, malty and sweet. Also has a sweet taste, too sweet but not impossible. Touch of liquorice among the chocolate. Nice enough.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small frothy cream head. There’s a strong aroma of cherries here, plus a little of roasted malts. In the mouth it fluctuates between sweet and sharp, with cherry being the dominant flavour in both extremes. Also some cola and hints of vanilla. This is decent, although it’s a bit of a one trick pony.
