Cask at Banbury Beer Festival Fri 23rd March. One of my favourite beers that did exactly as it ’said on the tin’ i.e it was indeed a dark dry bitter although more amber than really dark. I got a taste of marzipan in my first mouthfull which to a lesser degree kept coming back with each subsequent slurp. This was a thoroughly decent beer that I could happily have had a session of, most enjoyable.

Cask handpull at The Dispensary, Liverpool. Pale gold, with thick white head. Hoppy aroma. Citrus lemon/grapefruit throughout. Some yeast on aroma. Fine pale malts in mouth before balanced pink grapefruit kicks in. Very drinkable citrus blonde beer.

Cask at GBBF 2006. A slighlty hazy yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet with quite strong citrus notes. The flavor is sweet malty with light notes of citrus, leading to a bitter end. I like the flavor, but the thin body is a drawback.

Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Clear pale golden. Citric nose. dryish and light bodied with clean, rounded malt character. Some hay and salt in the rather bitter finish. Freshening.

(Cask at Akkurat, 16 Feb 2007) Golden amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity nose with notes of orange, apricots and fresh, floral hops. Fruity, refreshing taste with orange, mandarin, apricots and fresh, grassy hops in the finish. A bit thin, but a nice and tasty session ale.

Chromate yellow beer with a sturdy, dense white head. Vanilla, chalk, pale malts initially, then fresh, noble UK hops kick in, and they mean business. What is more important, they smell clear and wholesome. Excellent bitter, hopcharacter-filled flavour; touch of lemon/lemonzeste, (pale) malts give body, but don’t interfere much in the taste - but the balance is just right. In fact, simple, hoppy as it is, it is so pleasing that it deserves extra marks for that. Light, maybe medium, but not watery; grist slickness, as the effect of dissolving some pale biscuits completely in sparkling water. Excellent beer, excellent brewery, IMO.

Cask gravity at White Cliffs BF 2007. Gold colour with thin white head. Fragrant, flowery hop aroma. Bit of yeast on the aroma. Does lack a bit of body. I quite like the citrus drying hop finish. Some tangerine and I like the finish, just lacks a bit of malt structure in the mouth.

Cask handpull at Market Porter, Borough. Pale gold, thin white head. Bit farty yeast aroma. Blonde citrus hoppy beer. Good example of the type with nice lemon and hop finish. Typical Ossett beer.
