Description
Barney’s started brewing at Summerhall in July 2012 in time to supply the venue’s Royal Dick Bar for the Fringe, but Barney himself began brewing aged 16 as a brewery apprentice. After bagging a first class degree in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot Watt University and packing in a high flying career promoting rum and whisky around the world, Barney decided it was high time he started to brew his own beer.
In doing so, his immaculate microbrewery has injected new life into Edinburgh’s brewing history, not least because he’s chosen to resurrect a brewery at Summerhall where beer has been brewed off and on for three centuries.

Can at The Royal Dick. It pours hazy golden with a medium white head. The aroma is fresh, zingy, orange and lemons, lemon sherbet, sour candy and orange chewits. The taste is crisp, dry, tart, big lemon sherbet vibe, zingy, sour candy, sherbet dib dab, lemon verbena with a sherbety finish. Light to medium sized moderate, foamy carbonation. Not a huge amount of depth, but it is very fun and well done. True to its name.

Clear golden colour, medium sized creamy white head; aroma and taste of peach or apricot, mango, sloght grapeseeds and maltyness; not a hop bomb but still enjoyable

Bottle from Cork & Cask. Clear amber body with a thin off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of honey, kidney beans and toast. Flavour of wood and parma violets. Thin body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. There’s an unusual woody note to this. It’s fine overall.
