Description
Barney’s started brewing at Summerhall in July 2012 in time to supply the venue’s Royal Dick Bar for the Fringe, but Barney himself began brewing aged 16 as a brewery apprentice. After bagging a first class degree in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot Watt University and packing in a high flying career promoting rum and whisky around the world, Barney decided it was high time he started to brew his own beer.

In doing so, his immaculate microbrewery has injected new life into Edinburgh’s brewing history, not least because he’s chosen to resurrect a brewery at Summerhall where beer has been brewed off and on for three centuries.

Can shared with Grumbo as a warm up for the England v Rest of Europe rating match. The Apricot and the sherbet really come out in the aroma with some orange. The taste is of peach, stonefruit, apricot with the sherbet initially dominating. This then fades and the carbonation dies off. It then becomes sweeter. Smooth and refreshing. Enjoyed this.

Bottle shared at the CBJ tasting, thanks to LKS, 12/06/24. Hazed yellow with a thin white cap. Nose is lemon rind, herb, straw, grains. Taste comprises damp wood, light funk, lemon rind, hedgerow, straw, modest acidic twang. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Okay sour but a little simplistic and not much barrel offered.
