Tap at the Winking Seal Taproom, Ho Chi Minh City. Poured a crystal clear light amber colour with a short-lived frothy white head. The aroma is toffee caramel malt, zesty citrus fruits, woody hop. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter, light sweet, with a smooth, rich, malty, juicy citrus fruit, light pepper spice, light boozy alcohol, big woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation. One of the better beers I’ve had from Winking Seal.

The flavour is moderate sour, with a light, crisp, slightly watery, biscuit, juicy, light tart citrus palate and a lingering sour finish. Medium to light bodied with average to soft carbonation. Light, refreshing and nicely balanced.

Tap at the Winking Seal Taproom, Ho Chi Minh City. Poured a murky golden straw colour with little life. The aroma is some light malts, big skunky durian. The flavour is herbal with a watery, light durian fruit palate. Medium to light bodied with flat carbonation. Didn’t like this at all I’m afraid. Didn’t get any coffee.

Draft at the Ho Chi Minh taproom. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, big chocolate, lactose, coffee. The flavour is moderate sweet, liqouirce bitter, with a roasty, sweet chocolate, big burning spicy chilli palate. Medium to full bodied with flat carbonation. There is a lot of spice in there but it’s not overpowering. The best beer by far I’ve had from Winking Seal.

Can at Nong Trai Khaoi, Ho Chi Minh City. Poured a hazy medium amber with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, toffee caramel, big initial lemongrass. The flavour is light bitter sweet with a smooth, rich malty, light sweet toffee, light lemongrass, light hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation. The lemongrass was very much in your face when the Can was first opened, but as soon as it warmed and some air got to it, the lemongrass all but disappeared.
