Draught at the brewery, 8/1/15.
Copper orange colored liquid is topped by a moderate amount of white head showing fair retention. Medium-high to high clarity.
Not too shabby aroma! Fairly straightforward ruby red grapefruit and some meyer lemon notes show a good amount of juiciness and while there’s a bit of excess acidity, you can tell care was taken to really get some good late-hopping in here. As well, aside from some toasty/sourdough-like malt character, its pretty well given over to the hops yet balanced enough by background base malts. Alcohol nicely reserved.
Juicy fruits balance pale malts in the flavor and you get a good dose of citrus ending in light melon and a bit of pine. Well-malted yet pretty well attenuated, with a supple, somewhat thick at times, texture. Alcohol pretty well concealed, bit of excess resin/grapefruit rind on end, but the juicy-sweet hoppiness is compelling. Very nice.

Dark chocolate brown body is topped by beige head that is medium-sized and steadily recedes to cover. Clarity is medium.
Not a whole lot by way of aroma. Some light chocolate, bits of dark roasted coffee, vanilla...I hate to pull the "pretty typical brewpub stout" card, but....
The flavor seems well-done at first, with a good dose of roast balancing sweet pale malts, creating a typical chocolate character. Add to it light vanilla and coffee. Towards the end, however and persisting on the finish and growing with warming, is a strong bean-like flavor. Baked beans, if you will, or the pea puree-like green coffee flavor. Obviously some malt-derived compound out-of-sync, but it’s quite unpleasant. Texture is watery with some slickness from the sugars. Moderately carbonated with no alcohol noted.

Clear golden with some brass tints. White head is small and shows moderate to low retention.
Spicy, rather floral hoppiness in the nose is joined by vanilla and sourdough-like maltiness. Maybe a pinch of soapiness but there’s some juiciness from the hops, adding a bit of citrus character and keeping things pretty well-balanced. No alcohol.
Very sourdough/toasted grain heavy. Must be a lot of munich/vienna malt here? Kind of odd, but with the low hoppiness, it helps balance the sweetness. Pretty good attenuation, though it’s certainly not dry. Leafy, floral hops with light stone fruits and no alcohol. Slippery/slick texture with ample carbonation. Fine.
