Amber pour with a lingering light tan head head. Smells of toffee, plums, and spices with vinous notes. The flavor is sweet and malty. Toffee, dark fruit, booze. Full bodied.

Bottle direct from the brewery. It pours. Ah some red - brown with a thick beige head. The aroma is rich maltage, toasty grains, brown bread, some spice, bran muffin, marmalade sandwich, oolong tea, slightly meaty and a touch of toffee. The taste is dry upfront, bitter - sweet, big ol' malt bomb, hearty bread, digestive biscuit, cakey vibes, plum pudding, fig, date, cherry wine, toasted fruit cake, big slap of booze which warms the cockles, tangy marmalade, medicinal vibes and tannin with a drying, warming fruit cake finish. Fulsome body and average carbonation. Better condition than the other bottles I have had front them. Hearty stuff.

Bottle from the brewery. It pours deep red - brown with a pretty decent fluffy beige head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, toffee, sappy, hint of pine, cola cubes, brown bread, touch of dried fruit and fruit cake. The taste is smooth, bitter - sweet, touch of caramel, toffee, dried fruits, malt loaf, brown bread, light resin, pine and sap with a dry finish. Average body and decent, supportive carbonation. Not a huge amount of depth, but it's balanced and very drinkable. One of their better offerings.

2 bottles from the brewery's mail order service. One pours deep brown with a small beige head.the other no head whatsoever. The aroma is toasty, earthy, wood, coffee beans, cacao, malt loaf and ryvita. The taste is dry, crisp, sourness upfront which dissipates (interestingly the flat one doesn't have this sour note), washed coffee, cola, malt loaf, brown bread, wood, resin and some umami. Light body and soft carbonation. A worryingly level of variable in the 2 bottles. I mean neither are particularly offensive, just not well crafted.

Bottle from the brewery's mail order service. It pours pretty near black with a reasonable tan head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, rich chocolate character, cacao nibs, chocolate torte, earthy, toasted nut, coffee, praline and burnt toast. The taste is smooth, dark roasted malt, bitter - sweet, earthy, coffee grounds, molasses, malt loaf, loads of chocolate, some umami, chewy liquorice, toasted sesame seeds, warming booze, light acidity and burnt toast with a dark roasted finish. Medium body and light+ carbonation. Best offering I have had from them so far.

Bottle from the brewery's mail order server. It pours a bit hazy deep copper with a small bubbly white head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, fragrant, floral, heather, sappy, wood, resin, spice, savoury character and leather. The taste is dry, slightly tannin, sappy, resin, quite savoury, fragrant, umami, chewy malt, leather, dried floral vibes and heather with an earthy finish. Average body and low carbonation. Another offering that would benefit from clarity and more carbonation. So-so.

Bottle via brewery Mail Order. It pours clear straw yellow with a small, bubbly white head. The aroma is straw, biscuit, grain, touch of spice, bread, twist of citrus, some cereal and nuttiness. The taste is firmly dry, touch of bitterness, pithy, zesty, lemon rinse, waxy grapefruit peel, soapy florals, damp grain and grass worth a drying, pithy finale. Lightish body and limited carbonation. A bit more condition could lift this. Fair.

500mp bottle via brewery mail order. It pours clear orangey - gold with a bubbly white head (not a lot of life in it). The aroma is all about rich malt action, porridge, oatcakes, toasty grains, cereal, digestive biscuit, earth, grass and leafy vibes. The taste is dry upfront, toasty grains, dull grassy bitterness, earthy, wood, cereal, porridge, oatcakes, muted sweetness, digestive biscuits and some boozey boost. Medium body and unfortunately limited carbonation. Not a bad strong pale, but needs more carbonation.
