5.6/10 — Appearance 8 Aroma 4 Flavor 6 Texture 6 Overall 5.5
Draught at the brewery on opening night, 4/1/16.
Dark ebony, with indeterminable clarity and a tan head atop that is large but fades steadily to cover.
Continuing the trend of their beers being significantly rushed, this one had a massive glue aroma to it. Behind that there’s a light char, salt, and milk chocolate character that seems fairly appropriate for the style.
In the mouth, notes of peanut brittle, salty toffee, char and cocoa powder seem rather messy and there’s no real soft maltiness or base malt character. Just a lot of random flavors jumbled together. Some roasted bitterness on the end cleans things up somewhat but there’s alcohol lingering lightly, as well. Moderate carbonation.

6.1/10 — Appearance 8 Aroma 6 Flavor 6 Texture 6 Overall 5.5
Draught at the brewery, 4/1/16.
Dark cola-brown body shows good clarity and a dark beige head atop that shows moderate retention.
Heavily fruity hops in the nose are dank and juicy, mixing with lots of bittersweet chocolate and very reserved coffee notes. Fresh yeast, light minerals and hints of hazelnut linger, with light caramel as it warms. No alcohol noted.
Thankfully this one is considerably more fermented through than the cream or IPA. There’s still a little bit of worty sweetness to be had, but the roast and bitter chocolate, as well as the hops, help cover it up. The fruitiness from the hops is quite enjoyable, and the carbonation is ample and engaging leading to a moderate level of drinkability. Really the only beer I could handle drinking a second one of at the brewery.

3.9/10 — Appearance 8 Aroma 5 Flavor 3 Texture 2 Overall 2.5
Draught at the brewery, opening night, 4/1/16.
Very lightly hazy golden-brass colored body shows a small, but dense white head with moderate retention.
Aggressive pine is somewhat allayed by pineapple and mango in the nose as moderate caramel and thick honey notes sit heavily in waiting. Has some brief moments of enjoyable fruitiness/juiciness reminiscent of New England-style IPAs, but there’s too much pine and way too much malt (actually wort) character. No alcohol noted.
Quite bitter in the mouth, it more or less suffers from the exact same worty sweetness that the cream ale does. Even the pine and citrus can’t stop the sugary onslaught that builds up heavily on the palate, fatiguing it. Extremely difficult to finish a pint of this or the cream ale, much less imagine drinking another. Thick, amply carbonated texture with tons of sugary wort.

4.1/10 — Appearance 8 Aroma 6 Flavor 3 Texture 2 Overall 2.5
Draught at Opening Night, 4/1/16.
Big white head tops a slightly chill-hazed golden-bronze body. Retention is moderate to strong.
Tons of cereals in the nose with minerals, light honey and faint grassiness from the hops. A bit of dry white bread and perhaps a touch of plastic? No alcohol.
In the mouth it’s initially quite full of grain flavors. Heavy cereal character, with a worty sweetness that is immediately apparent but grows stronger and stronger. It’s extremely off-putting (obviously) and gives the beer a sweet, sluggish, very unenjoyable character with very low drinkability. Guess they rushed it out?
