500ml bottle at home. Pours dark red, almost brownish, thick off white head. Muted aroma of caramel, raisins, plums, floral hops. Flavour is slightly sour dark fruit, caramel, not getting any smokiness or sweet malt here. Malty and sour finish. Not what I expected, cross between an Irish Red Ale and maybe a Flemish Oud Bruin.

From the bottle. Dark red with a voluminous foamy head that slowly settles. Aroma is quite smoky with mild herbal and caramel notes. Taste is mildly sweet with the only bitterness coming from the the smokiness. Body is quite light, too light for my liking with this one, texture trends watery. Okay but lacks oomph.

From the bottle. Now labelled at 4.3%. Dark brown with a thin, creamy beige crown. Aroma is full of toast and coffee. Unfortunately the bottle is a little too cold, which is probably dulling it. Taste is burnt and moderately bitter, full of toast, tobacco, coffee, charcoal, and rich dark chocolate. Body is medium. Carbonation is soft. Texture is lightly oily. Overall, I’m amazed at the robustness of the flavor given the relatively low ABV. I used to think that a really good stout needed 5 to 6%+, but I have now been taught otherwise. Nice!

Tasting sample at Fran Well. Deep amber pour, medium off-white head. Nose of citrus fruit and digestive biscuits, some earthy notes as well. Lovely full mouthfeel with the citrus hops combining well with the malty backbone.
