About
Through more than 200 years of making real premium craft cider, six generations of the Sheppy family have weathered the ups and downs of combining farming with cider-making by embracing change and opportunity.

Today David Sheppy the incumbent Master of Cider, applies his unrivalled knowledge and expertise from a lifetime of cider making to turn our home-grown apples into some of the finest and award winning ciders.

Fifteen of our 90 acres of orchards we planted with tradition standard apple trees. Eight acres of these are certified organic. The remaining 75 acres contain bush trees planted at between 200 and 300 trees per acre, so about 19,000 trees in total at Sheppy's.

75cl bottle shared with Soph. Deep gold appearance. Sweet nose, though suggesting more of a sweet apple cider than perry fruit. Has a custardy sweetness, distant tannin, light body. Expected more Perry fruit to shine through, perhaps a little woodiness, a depth of flavour from the 5 varieties used, but comes across like a simplistic sweet apple cider. Still enjoyable, just not quite what was expected.

1/3 point from hand pump at Ship and Mitre, Liverpool. Yellow hazy color, small white head. Smells apples, earthy, musty, dusty. Decent to nice smell. Full body, light carbonation. Tastes sweet, apples, apple juice, earthy, peppery. Finishes light to medium sweet with notes of apples, apple juice and light earthy notes. Ok, too sweet for me, lacks some complexity

Tasting at Phill's, bottle
(some details got lost) It's still, with mild funk, apple skins, mild astringency. Good.

Poured from bottle. Clear-ish pale orange with no head. Barnyard, horse blanket, apple, not enough depth, almost a little bit flat, but very nice flavours.

750mL bottle, pours a clear golden, no head. Aroma is full of farmhouse funk, crisp apples, and a hint of dry toffee. Flavour is full of dry barnyard funk, horse blanket, and crisp apple skins. Very funky and horse blankety. Maybe not the best English cider out there, but the farmhouse character is really solid. How is this rated so low? People can't appreciate good cider on here apparently. This is great.
