Large can from Beer 52. Berry fruits dominate the nose, but with a hint of mulled wine too. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a strong dark beige (almost reddish) head. Initial impression in the mouth is of the bitterness of coffee grounds (though no actual coffee taste). Further sampling gives a strong liquorice flavour along with toffee, burnt sugar and aniseed. Bitterness returns in the finish, but is now more hoppy – and the 7% strength beings to show at last. A really nice drink, but could have done with a tad more porter character.

440ml can from School of Animals, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a slightly hazy golden colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, big zesty citra! The flavour is moderate sweet, light bitter, with a big, juicy, lemon lime citrus, light herbal, light floral, hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Panda at home, thanks to SHIG, 20/03/21. Moderately hazed orange to light amber with a decent off white cap that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is sticky tropical fruits, orange pith, pine resin, mango flesh, pineapple, light floral notes. Taste comprises over ripened pineapple, orange peel, grapefruit flush, mango, sweet malts, light pine kiss. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close splashed with mellow juicy hop bitterness. Ok DIPA if a little sweet and lacking some bittering balance for me.
