Description
In the country side, on the banks of Tauber river and directly on "Romantische Straße" ("Romantic Road") there is a small village called Distelhausen, a district of Tauberbischofsheim. As the name suggests, "Distelhäuser Brauerei" (brewery of Distelhausen) is situated here; it is one of the medium-sized breweries in the German beer sector. The brewery was founded in 1811 as Brewery Womann and in 1876 acquired by Ernst Bauer. The brewery is owned by the Bauer family since that year.

In Distelhausen, 23 different kinds of beer are currently produced according to traditional regional brewages. Due to the long-lasting and trustful co-operation with domestic business partners and gastronomy and because of the tight coupling with regional suppliers from agriculture, industry and services, "Distelhäuser Brauerei" considerably supports regional economy in Franconia of Tauber River since the raw materials used are traditionally mainly from the region.

The brewery is a founding member of the Die Freien Brauer (Independent Brewers) initiative, an association of medium-sized private breweries in Germany and Austria. As early as 1956 the brewery involved its staff in various forms in the profits.

Bottle: Golden, smaller and quite stable loose white head, visible carbonation; lemons, but also shy traces of nutmeg and wheat in the nose; moderate sweetish-sourish flavour, relatively light bodied, slick; mainly lemons and some wheat in the sourish-fruity finish. A well crafted example of this odd style and a good thirst-quencher..........

Bottle: Hazy, dirty golden, mid-sized off-white head, that quickly diminishes to a small foamy layer; a phenolic-wheaty touch is detectable in the fruity (bananas) nose; moderate sourish-sweetish flavour, light to medium bodied; lemony-wheaty finish, almost without any tartness. O.K. IMO a solis standard Weizen.........

Bottle: Cloudy, orangey coloured, quite stable rocky off-white head; a mix of oranges and ripe bananas in the aroma, some yeasty traces added; moderate to solid sweet-sourish flavour, medium bodied soft creamy MF; the orangey fruitiness returns in the long sweet-sourish and light tart finish. A chewy brew with some relations to Belgian Ales.............
