On tap at St. Nicholas, pours a deep dark brown, with a reddish tinge and a small tan head. Aroma brings out tropical red fruits, some toasted malt and winter spices. Flavour is very sour and fruity, with subdued winter spices. Ugh, this just doesn't work. Too off-puttingly sour.

On tap at St. Nicholas, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma brings out toasted malt and a hint of dry cocoa. Flavour brings out toasted malt all the same, with a fairly soft palate. Rather dull and muffled on the palate. It's okay.

On tap at St. Nicholas, pours a clear golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out light citrus hops, biscuity malt and light stone fruits. Flavour is infected with diacetyl, which ends up totally ruining this. Totally undrinkable butter bomb.

On tap at St. Nicholas, pours a clear orange amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out caramel bready malt and toffee. Flavour is very malty, with bready malt, toasted caramel and toffee. Viscous mouthfeel, with fairly low sweetness for the style. Very well-made.

On tap at St. Nicholas, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out bright tropical fruity hops, lots of bright pine, and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is very bright and fruity, with a wonderful stone fruity hop character, backed by a dry, crisp biscuity malt backbone. Nicely balanced and highly drinkable. Very good.

Taster at St. Nichols, during Eclipse Sunday. My son, who is not drinking yet, don’t worry mom, could smell it from his corner of the table, saying he thought it had raspberry and "vines." I figured that to mean it had an earthy smell of English hop. Despite the dark body, this did not have the graininess of a stout. There was a bit of berry in the taste, and maybe Amarillo hops. Perhaps a bit of wheat in the malt, but that’s just my guess.

Taster at St. Nicholas, during Eclipse Sunday. Body is a slightly cloudy brown, with a thin head that persisted while I attended to its brethren on the taster tray. Warming alcohol from its first sip. This is just a bit fruity. The base malt might be pretty sweet, but hops are hiding in the background to keep it from becoming treacly. A smooth strong beer with plum and dried cherry notes.

Taster at St. Nicholas, Eclipse Sunday. Yes, I will always try out a pepper beer. This single batch was just put on tap, so the server was unsure of details, so I wrote the brewer, who said it’s made with pepperoncini, mild jalapeños and banana peppers. It was light and cloudy, like a Belgian wit, with a very thin head. I had picked up on jalapeño peppers right away, and it left a mild burn, mitigated by the addition of mango fruit sweetness.

Draft taster, the evening before the 2017 Eclipse. Slightly brown body under a spongy pale ale head. Cascade hops forefront on the nose, with a pine resin and apricot smell. Taste has big hops up front as advertised. Immediately notice the malt is a bit dry. That seems to be the brewer’s choice, and it well showcases the hop florals.
