500ml bottle at home. Pours a deep red to brown, nice large off white to tan head that sticks around. Muted aroma of brown bread, sweet fruit, cherry, honey. Taste isn’t that far away from a regular traditional red ale to be honest, I’m not getting a ton of “barrel aged” flavours here, mostly sweet malt and strangely some bittering hops. Finish is very quick unfortunately.

Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [300417]
Amber, soft haze, frothy white head
Aroma of sweet pale malt, dull straw, dab of musty hops, little on nose
Taste of pale malt, damp straw, touch of smoke, some bitter musty hops, scorched caramel, yeasty, flavour rather poor
Palate - Medium carb and por, fairly sweet, quite rich texture, fairly bitter. Finish is quite dry, farily bitter linger, quite rough, palate not clean
Overall - Nope...very rough. Thrown out after 1/3 bottle. Maybe off batch.

Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [300417]
Ruby red copper, light haze, frothy dense off white head, good lacing
Aroma of fruity caramel malts, red hedgerow fruits, some earthy strawberry, dab of toasted malt, more fruity than other Irish Reds
Taste of caramel malts, bitter earthy hops, bitter roasted malts, some red fruits, rather rough hewn, not as good as aroma
Palate - Medium carb and body, bit fizzy, bitter. Finish is quite dry, bitter earthy hops, rather harsh bitter linger that’s not pleasent
Overall - Need more sweet malts, over harsh finish, rather rough around the edges, didn’t really like this

Keg at PJ’s, Carlingford, 04/06/16. Reddish amber with a decent beige cap. Nose is sweet malt, caramel, biscuit, light spice. Taste comprises caramel malt, earthy, cheesecake base, toasted brown sugar, touch of fruit cake, light mineral dance and a touch of earthy hop bitterness. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a bitter sweet finale. Decent enough for style ... A little sweet in places but balanced well with a light peppery spice.
