About
Brouwerij Hommeles werd opgericht door Jos Eberson, Jan Ausems en Kees Volkers vanuit het Houtens Brouwcollectief.
Met het collectief wilde de drie mannen de Utrechtse speciaalbiercultuur op de kaart zetten door middel van brouw demonstraties,
een lokaal speciaalbierfestival met alleen brouwers uit de provincie en door het delen van de geschiedenis van bier in de provincie.
Het charmante Utrechtse Bierbrouwersfestival (UBF) dat werd gehouden bij Molen de Ster in Utrecht groeide al snel uit tot een populair festival dat uit zijn voegen barstte, en verhuisde naar evenementenlocatie De Fabrique aan de rand van Utrecht. Ook was de vraag naar het bier dat door de drie mannen werd gebrouwen inmiddels zo groot geworden dat er een flink assortiment was ontstaan. Geschonken bij cafés en restaurants in de regio en verkocht bij verschillende speciaalzaken. Zo werd een stichting een BV, en werd brouwen serious business.

330ml bottle. Opalescent, dark yellow-ish to orange, golden colour with small, frothy, fading, white head. Slightly herbal, lemonade aroma, slightly bready, malty background, hints of lemon, lemongrass, lemon balm, white bread crust, a touch of lime, lime peel. Taste is tart-ish, citrusy fruity, slightly bready and minimally sugary, pale malty, hints of lemon, lime, a touch of brown sugar, white bread crust, some residual sweetness.
Dissolved sugar enriched, watery texture, smooth, minimally cloying, simultaneously minimally dry palate, fine, scattered, soft to flat carbonation.
Not to artificial, passably refreshing - OK.

Hazy dark golden with a white head. Hoppy citrus aroma. Sweet taste with a nice caramelly sweet finish. Not very much a DNEIPA but more an old-fashioned double IPA. Nice one.

Clear dark golden with a white head. Very herbal lemon aroma (from the lemon verbena) with some apple. Sweet taste with a low bitter finish. Nice and interesting beer but too herbal for my brother and father.

Sample van fles bij Drie Dorstige Herten. Zwarte kleur, beige kraag. Flink gebrand, geroosterd, koffie, pure chocolade, gebrande pinda’s, droog en bitter, suggestie van Portwijn. Lichte body maar volle smaak. Mooi bier.

(Draught at De Drie Dorstige Herten, Utrecht, 14 Aug 2025) Pale amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with apricots, orange peel, marmalade and toast. Malty, fruity taste with notes of apricots, orange peel, caramel, marmalade, toast, herbs and a mild citric/herbal bitterness. Almost full body, quite sweet. Tasty and well balanced. Nice one.

Bottle. Color: Clear ruby, mocha head. Aroma: Malty, caramel fudge, sweetish, subtle fruity notes of Sherry. Taste: Over medium body, low carbonation. Malty mix of caramel, caramel fudge, fruity Sherry / white grape notes, some almond and hints of dark dried fruit. Not that complex, but not bad at all. Over moderate to medium sweet, light hopbitterness.
