On tap at Petrol Station. Pours a cloudy amber with small frothy white head. The aroma is faint floral and pine. Thick mouthfeel with sweet hop and nice lingering dry bitterness. Good.

Pours with a mahogany body supporting a dark tan head of foam. The aroma offers up aged dark roasted malts, black licorice, earthy milk chocolate and mild sweet bourbon like booze notes. The taste has smooth yummy dark roasted malts, some spicy black licorice and smooth bourbon notes heading to midway and into the finish. It gets a bit more bourbon like into the finish as the other notes recede away. Dandy stuff.

Can: Pours deep brown with a thick, light brown head. Aroma is vanilla, chocolate, malt. Flavour is heavy, dark chocolate and coffee...bordering on vinous.... vanilla cream. A little smoky. Very robust. Extremely good.

Pours a cloudy orange-brown color with a medium foamy off-white head that dissipates steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of musty malt and citrus. Light to medium body with flavors of grainy malt, lemons and yeast. The finish is slightly funky with a fruity aftertaste. Just average overall.

750 swingtop ceramic from France 44. Pours translucent orange amber with a transient off-white head. Aroma of earthy cooked light pitted fruit. Med body. Moderate carb. Flavor is very surprising. It suggests caramel/treacle, light pitted fruit, and a little floral/earthy hop. Seems a bit maltier than appropriate. As time moves on the light pitted fruit steps forward. It’s trying to finish towards earthy/dry. Maybe it will get there.

Can: Pours very cloudy orange-brown with a craggy, tan head. Scent is very bright pine....spicy citrus... maybe a little sharp coconut/pineapple? Nice, creamy soft, buttery bitter. Very smooth.... Quite tasty.

Sample at Hay Merchant in Houston. This brew pours a murky brown color with a medium khaki head that recedes steadily. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted nuts, malt and fruit. Medium-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, nuts and ripe fruit. The finish is sweet with a short malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

On tap at Flying Saucer. Pours a dark brown with medium creamy tan head that lasts awhile leaving sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is roasted malt cocoa and pine. Medium mouthfeel with a light roastiness and smooth hop flavor. Easy to drink a good black IPA from Southern Star.
