Description
It all started in a shed, no joke! Ian, started home brewing in his garden shed, building recipes inspired by his loved beers. We loved it, our mates loved it, the shed was bursting at the seams, it was time to move to bigger premises. In 2013 Brick was born, and we started building a brewery in a railway arch behind Peckham Rye station, SE London.

Keg at the brewery. A hazed golden orange coloured pour with a lasting g frothy off white head. Aroma is nice nice of tropical zesty fruits, mango, pollen, lychee and doughy grains. Flavour is composed of tangy bready doughy grains, pithy lemon, pollen floral hop notes, brambles. Some plastic notes on the flavour , this may be a weird phenol and hop combo. Palate is medium bodied, frothy, rounded. A little rough round the edges, but interesting.

Flavour is composed of weird plastic notes, sweet cereal, a little diacetyl , buttery, sweet grains. Palate is medium sweet, moderately crisp, moderate carbonation. Meh.

Keg at the Brewery. A hazed golden orange coloured pour with a thin white head. Aroma is funky tangy yoghurt, granny smith apple, doughy wheat, vanilla. Flavour is composed of tangy sharpness, musty fusty funk, lemon rind, slight staling doughy grains. Bitter pithy lemon rind lingers. Palate is medium light bodied, moderate carbonation, tangy. Maybe a bit of butyric but I’m not very sensitive to it.

Cask at the Taproom SE18 Beer Festival, April 2016. Pours a copper colour, no head. Orchard fruit and toffee nose and flavour. Not bad.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the London Brewers’ Market. Pours clear, deep brown with a frothy, tan head. The aroma holds light roast, dry milk chocolate. Light sweet flavour with quite restrained roast, some dark malt character - a bit of cocoa, some burnt earth, ripening berries. Light bodied with energetic and massaging carbonation. Reasonably well balanced to close things out, with more dry and lightly bitter cocoa, subtle roast, dried berries, mellow earthy bitterness. This is nothing to get excited about, but it does make for easy drinking.

Keg at Brick. It pours cloudy mahogany brown with a thick off-white head. The aroma is fresh, bready, cereal, orange marmalade, tangerine and caramel. The taste is bitter, brown bread, earthy, grass, good hop hit, orange marmalade and spice with a dry finish. Light - medium and moderate carbonation. Works a lot better than expected. Nice.

Keg at Brick. It pours clear amber with a thick white head. The aroma is fresh, bright, orange marmalade, candied peel, bready malts and a touch of creaminess. The taste is crisp, bitter, grassy, citrus peel, bread, peppery spice and straw with a dry finish. Medium body and lively carbonation. Rather quaffable and fresh. Decent.

Keg, nitro dispense at Brick. It pours black with a thick, creamy light tan head. The nose is bitter - sweet, coffee grounds, chocolate, ashy and dark fruits. The taste is smooth, creamy, rich roasted malts, cocoa, coffee grounds, peppery spice, mild acidity and bit of tangy dark fruits with a dry, roasted finish. Decent nitro stout, if a touch lacking in depth.
