Schooner on tap at Szimpla near Auckland Airport. With ice (not requested). Nose is stewed apples. A touch savoury. Amber cider with the odd bubble ascending. Some lacing. Semi sweet apple taste. Finish is lingering and tart. Not bad.

Schooner on tap at Szimpla near Auckland Airport. Very faint nose of grainy bread. Clear red/brown beer with a thin white head. Light carbonation. Good lacing. Slight zing, caramel toffee taste. Finish is drier with a sweet smoky tang. Easy to drink. Not complicated but pretty tasty.

Schooner on tap at Szimpla near Auckland Airport. Pours a clear flat amber with a thin white head. Good lacing. Grainy nose, sweet malt taste. Finish is dry and grainy. Basically a sweet Pils. Smashable.

Tap at Verona as All Malt Lager. Clear light golden with white head. Bready malts, pils malts, lots of wet grains, soft grassy hops, soft doughy. Under medium sweet and bitter. Just medium bodied.

Tap at Verona. Clear dark golden with off white head. Light caramel malts, soft pils malts, grassy, light herbs and a bit of citrus peel, light tea. Medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with slight dry finish. More a UK or German style IPA, but not bad.

(On tap) Cloudy amber yellow, no head. Nice ginger aroma. Full bodied, almost sticky, with prickly carbonation. Taste has nice ginger flavours, but is far too sweet, and disturbingly has hints of cheese. Overall, it’s OK, but as with many ginger beers is far too sweet,
