Draft. An amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of caramel, malt, and fruit. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, malt, and fruit, leading to a dry finish.

Clear middling gold body and okay foam on top. Smells of nail polish remover and rotting garbage - fresh at least, no flies present. Flavour is estery alcohol and heavy sweet sugary fruitiness. Full enough on the mouth but the adjuncts linger. About what you'd expect from the style, either hold your nose and chug or just avoid it altogether.

Large bottle, at the Beer Jerk Bunker bottle share, 'thanks' to Tom. Pours brown. Sweetcorn, honey, vomit, biscuit, touch of peach and some more sweetcorn. Medium body. An adequately comical prank to bring to bottle share, not sure it has much other purpose.

As Boundary Road Golden Lager at a restaurant in Te Anau. A straightforward lager; a straw coloured pour with a tight white head; weak floral aroma; sweet cereal taste; and little in the way of a finish.

On tap at a cafe in Picton. A pale chestnut pour with a ring of translucent head; sweet malty taste with perhaps a trace of hops; balnd, thin and disappointing compared to the other New Zealand beers I've tried so far on this trip.

Can from a random liquor store shared at Whakapapa holiday park. Clear pale straw with soft hue and a few seconds of fizzy head. Sweet Granny Smith, pear drops, sweet apple soda, light candy, even some vanilla (?), sugar. I used to drink this weird artificial pear works when I was a kid, and this reminds me a bit of that. Bit over medium sweet, light tart and very light bitter. Under medium bodied. More like an alcoholic soda, but has a little apple too. I guess it gets you drunk.

Bottle from random liquor store at shitty holiday park. Almost clear dull dark pink with short lasting fizzy light pink head. Sweet strawberry candies, light sweet apple, soft mineral, strong fizzy berry soft drink style notes, sugar. Very sweet, light tart. Just medium bodied. Apparently in NZ you don’t have to put ingredients on bottles? Would love to know what’s in this, I’m sure it’s not berries.

Can (440ml 4.7% ABV) from The Beer Store. Pours a slightly unfiltered light golden-yellow colour with a white cap, decent stay and lacing. Malty tasting with some light sweetness and hints of hops. Malty cereal nose with some light hops as well. Not as bad as I expected. A lager that is a notch up from the macros.

Can - Light grains and just a touch of skunk. Clear pale gold with a rich white head. Light apple, little sweetness and a long finish. A bit perfumy but OK.
