Bottle. An almost clear one, golden-yellow in color and with a small, off-white head on top. Coriander, citrus and some wheat on the nose. The flavor has coriander, citrus and wheat, with a pleasant bitterness. Quite dry on the palate, almost too dry, with nice carbonation. Overall, a quite pleasant beer, but far from world class. 120623

Bottle, 5%. Slightly hazy pale golden with small off-white head. Aroma is malt, wheat, yeast, fruit and spices. Flavour is malt, fruit, wheat, yeast, spices, hop, medium sweet and a little bitter.

From BA (Oct 2007): This was the third bottle in my collection of beers from this brewery and also the third bottle in a French beer tasting evening I had earlier in the week. A cork and caged 75cl brown bottle best before July 2008, drank in Oct 2007. Poured into my Hogaarden Grand Cru glass (twice). The first pour gave a lovely clear, golden coloured beer with a small white head. I allowed the sediment to fall into my second pour, which produced a murkey darker yellow/orange looking liquid that had a grubby cream head. The two glasses obviously gave me two vastly different tastes and it was like having two different beers, I liked them both. The clean taste of the first beer was so refreshing and the meatier second pour had such a depth of body it was great too. This breweries beers are all good, the beers are flavoursome and well made, this beer is a fine exmple of a Flanders amber beer.

A 75cl corked and caged brown bottle front label has a red sparkling sky with silhouettes of windmills (moulins in French). Best before July 2008, drank March 2007. Poured into two Gordon’s Thistle glasses, it is an amber, terracotta orange colour , a slight haze, but not cloudy, with a good white head. Yeast and hop aromas, but not much else, some biscuity malts maybe. Fairly sweet taste, caramel and seaside rock sugars, a hint of hops comes later, but no bitterness at all. Dryness appears and stays after the liquid has left your mouth, strange mix of flavours arrive with the dryness, citrus fruits and sweet toffee apples together. This is one strange Christmas beer, at 2.75 Euros a bottle it is OK, but it is not one of the best I’ve had. It’s one saving grace is the last inch of beer I left in the bottle from the initial pouring, I had that as an afterthought. It came out a cloudy oatmeal mess, this heady mix of sediment and a little beer still had not great aroma, but the flavours already mentioned came at me in waves, if I am ill tomorrow, I’ll mention it on here, otherwise the whole review stands!

December 2006 (from BA): This lovely beer was bought at ’Boozers’, a warehouse just off the motorway near Calais. At 1.89 Euro’s for a corked, caged brown 75cl bottle, I wish I had filled my car boot with it. Lot 1 of 02/06, best before April 08. This is one of the best non-British beers I have ever had. It is really a ’Blonde des Flandres’ according to the bottle, but it is an ’ambre blonde’ more than a ’blonde blonde’ if you catch my drift. I poured it into two Duvel glasses, the second glass getting the sediment, so I could compare each against the other. Strong aroma of yeast from both glasses, cloudy and amber in colour, the second glass obviously darker because of the sediment. Malt and hops also appeared within the aroma, all very pleasant. The large white/off-white head stayed throughout the session, the Duvel glasses help of course, but I think the head had a good retension anyway. The taste was super, a yeasty, vanilla, cum malty hop flavbour all combined to give a fantastic mouthfeel and drinkability. If I ever come across this beer again, I shall go ’Bansi’ on it. The only poor score from me is the cloudyness, I know it doesn’t matter really, but my eye’s tell me so much about life, and a cloudy beer has, for my eyes always flaged ’bad beer’, it’s a British cask ale thing!

(bottle, 33cl) Cloudy, murky orange colour with a tall and slightly off-white foamy head. Musty and sourish fruity wheaty aroma with notes of overripe fruits. Moderately sweet flavour with a tinge of sourness, only medium to light bodied with a rather calm carbonation. Bouteille: Deep golden, cloudy, visible carbonation, big and stable off-white head, wheaty nose, traces of alcohol and bubble-gum detectable; sweet-bitter flavour with a light acidity, hardly medium bodied (6.6%?); tart and citrussy flavours in the short sweet-bitter finish. A not-really-convincing-belgian-like-Ale…
